Let's just take the most extroverted person we can find and make them the new sales hire! (that's how I imagine the hiring process in most companies 😅). Don't get me wrong, I am a solid extrovert myself, and having the skill to playfully open conversations is a plus. However, this sort of sales hiring stems from a time when sales was mainly about building relationships. But in complex FinTech sales, your sales team needs to be capable of so much more. Such as: 📊 Project management 🔧 Have a solid technical understanding 🧩 Know consulting basics like structured problem-solving 📜 Understanding rules and regulations of their industry 🤝 Stakeholder management 🌟 Prospecting 📈 Have Marketing basics But why all that? Because your product is complex, the road to a signature is long, the price tag is big, the competition is fierce, and the impact your product has is huge. But if you ask me, most companies do not take the time to further improve the skills of their sales staff and wonder why results stay absent.
