The use of data is critical in the broadband industry to ensure long-term success and subscriber growth. We teamed up with Heavy Reading in 4Q23 to conduct a targeted survey to learn how ISPs/AltNets/WISPs serving 250,000 or fewer subscribers are collecting and using data to keep up with the continually evolving broadband landscape. Check out our two key research findings within! 🔗https://ow.ly/t9SK30sGH7O

At our 2024 INCOMPAS Policy Summit, two themes certainly stood out: the value of unlocking more spectrum and the need for the FCC to approve what it can, quickly. Fortunately, as several of our speakers recognized, the FCC has a prime opportunity to repurpose up to 500 MHz of mid-band spectrum for fixed wireless service in the lower 12GHz band. Follow along below, as we recap the thoughts on 12GHz spectrum band from Congressional speakers, FCC commissioners, and industry leaders.

I absolutely agree, we have traded depth for breadth in connecting through digital communities. It is really interesting to think about how quickly location based digital experiences went commercial. Consumerism quickly took over spaces as digital landscapes idealized ways that cities are only meant to serve us. Rather than being a part of physical communities, we are only using them to serve us. How can we sustain online communities locally?
There's a long history trying to spark local connection in digital spaces. From Community Memory, to internet radio stations, to Nextdoor: why is placemaking so difficult online?

special operations due to the strategic value of the Arctic region. The melting ice presents new challenges and opportunities, necessitating specialized training and enhanced capabilities for operations in this unique environment.
I'm very excited to post the link to our first ever international SOCOM Technical Experimentation event focused on Artic Capabilities, being held 13-17 January 2025 in Rena Norway. To answer what I know will be a common question, we welcome international as well as US based technologies. Details and the link are posted below. The US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) RFI for Technical Experimentation Event 25-1 has been posted on sam.gov at: https://lnkd.in/ew5asNGM. This Joint USSOCOM/Norway Technical Experimentation Event will be held in Rena, Norway 13-17 January 2025. The theme for this Event is Arctic Technical Experimentation, to explore technologies with the potential to support US/Norwegian and allied special operations in Arctic environments. This includes technologies developed for high-latitude regions, cold weather operations, long periods of darkness, and cross-over conditions. The RFI for experiment nominations closes 1200 on 25 JUL 24.

A quite comprehensive review of what is happening with open RAN and who is winning out of it - if anyone. Certainly worth reading, certainly worth reflecting...😉 https://lnkd.in/dicfS3G3

Service providers throughout the telecom industry are trying to figure out how to meet the FCC's latest newest regulations mandating that Internet Service Providers (ISPs) exhibit consumer broadband labels at the point of sale. Don't worry though, this is quite achievable. These labels will detail the monthly pricing, including introductory rates, fees, and taxes. Additionally, they will provide information on typical download and upload speeds, as well as latency. By April 10, 2024, the majority of US ISPs will be obligated to comply with the FCC rules by displaying these consumer broadband labels. https://lnkd.in/gKw86qkX Service providers who are Esri customers are in luck, as there's a solution available. Learn more about how to create broadband labels with hashtag #ArcGIS in this weeks' Telecom GIS in 5 Minutes. Mr. Bandwidth Goes To Washington March 23, 2024 It’s long been a myth that Vice-President Al Gore invented the Internet. Not true, but a fun story to tell at parties (just not parties we attend.) What the heck do politics and especially partisan politics have to do with the Internet? The Federal Communications Commission (FCC), after years of battling, has voted that Internet Service Providers cannot call their product “Broadband” unless they meet the standard of “at least” 100 Mbps down and 20 Mbps up. Data caps were designed by providers with network limitations, and consumers are fed up with getting milkshake-sized connections through coffee-straw-sized data caps! The internet, by its very nature, was designed to be unlimited. Connectivity isn’t just about speed; it’s about enabling people to do more, connect more, and experience more without worrying about hitting some imaginary cap. At LiveOak, we believe in true, unrestricted connectivity. Unlimited internet means our customers can realize the full value of their connection. That's why we’ve built our network from the ground up to offer unlimited services – because we know our customers deserve to enjoy the internet the way it was meant to be. #UnlimitedInternet #Broadband #CableIsOnlyForTV
The FCC is exploring the impact of data caps on internet users, but at LiveOak Fiber, we keep it simple: no data caps, ever. Unlimited access means freedom to stream, game, and work as much as you want. 🛜 Check out the article to learn more: https://lnkd.in/edvW94Pa
