Spending time in the Philippines listening to and speaking at a forum on the transformative potential of AI in education and healthcare the need for global collaboration on AI for health feels more urgent than I appreciated. Globally everyone is starting to see the massive potential of AI to help scale access to more advanced diagnosis and aid in care delivery but also understand the challenges of ensuring that these models work across diverse populations and are placed with careful ethical review and context. There were also many parallels explored between the nature of how AI is changing the nature of education and I was able to help connect the dots by discussing the work of Cornell Tech in advancing AI in health and broadly through innovative education models. Secretary of Education Sonny Angara shared their use of programs like Khan academy to really scale access to education across the most remote parts of the country. Sujoy Kar CMIO of the largest hospital group in Asia, Apollo Hospitals shared really impressive work around the development and deployment of multiple AI models and the ethical, regulatory, and patient centric frameworks that they have been establishing. Thanks to Monica Tsai, Dominic Ligot, Meiling (Lisa) Piao, Paulo Campos and others for your insightful interdisciplinary talks and impactful work. Thank you Jimbo Reverente for your leadership from the University of the Philippines - very great to meet you. Thank you to Tom Navasero and the Cornell Club of the Philippines for the invitation and hosting.
