Hibarri’s Role in Empowering Farmers by Cutting Out Middlemen in the name of Greater Profit One of the most significant challenges for South African farmers is the loss of profits to middlemen who charge high commissions and make the trade process unnecessarily complicated. A 2022 PwC report found that farmers in South Africa lose as much as 30% of their profits due to the involvement of intermediaries. Hibarri is changing that by allowing farmers to connect directly with buyers. By cutting out the middlemen, farmers can retain more of their earnings and establish long-term, profitable relationships with buyers. One small-scale farmer in the Western Cape reported a 30% increase in net profits within just four months of switching to Hibarri’s platform. This is just one example of how cutting out middlemen can boost farmers’ financial independence and economic success. Hibarri is empowering farmers to deal directly with buyers resulting in better margins, more control, and a more sustainable agricultural industry. www.hibarri.com #Farmers #ProfitMargin #Sustainability #Hibarri

IYMI: Why we invested 📈 🚀 In sub-Saharan Africa, about 50% of the fruits and vegetables produced never make it to the market for consumption. In Kenya alone, this results in more than $594M of post-harvest losses each year 🌍 📉. With over 75% of Kenyans dependent on agriculture, the losses also impact farmer incomes. Farm to Feed addresses this problem by creating a circular food system solution to reduce this food loss and waste by creating a market for surplus and imperfect produce. Rather than lose food to landfills or to animal feed, Farm to Feed keeps surplus and imperfect produce in the value chain for human consumption. A recent deep-dive study on subsistence Farmer Service Centers (FSCs) in Kenya highlights their pivotal role in supporting smallholder farmers with year-round services. These centers not only meet the needs of small-scale farmers but also mentor newly established FSCs and contribute to local employment. However, subsistence FSCs face significant economic challenges, including irregular market participation, unreliable services, and competition from more active centers and agrovets. To learn more about how these factors threaten their financial sustainability and long-term growth click here: https://rb.gy/zovj2f #AgriFinance #SmallholderFarmers

Important to note is that FSCs are a vital bridge between private, public-sector partners and smallholder farmers, among others. They generate revenue by offering various productivity-enhancing services to smallholder farmers, including advice and training, input sales, aggregation of produce, mechanisation services, and financial service linkages. Many FSCs are farmers themselves and demonstrate the value of the inputs, services and farming methods they promote as FSCs directly on their own farms (model farms).

Earlier this morning, I had a brief call with one of my bosses Yusuf Ogunbiyi and I was like, omo, na farmers go suffer the rising cost of mechanization services for this our Nigeria as e dey go like this o. Boss man was like, NO O, farmers are not going to suffer for anything, and everybody should get a fair price for whatever they are offering in the agricultural value chain. So, my questions to you today - Are you getting a fair price for your goods and services? - And are you offering your vendors a fair price for their goods and services too? #fairprice #agriculture #agriculturalmechanization
