😍🍪 How do you show up for your biz?
Last night, I found Susan Palmer and her pug, Timmy, hawking her yummy cookies at a brewery in Gowanus to help CHiPS, a local shelter and soup kitchen.
Yes, that’s how the owner of Little Red Kitchen Bake Shop, this week’s winner of the Specialty Food Association Sofi Award for “Product of the Year-Food Award” for her Molasses Spice Cookies, shows up for her business.

And you bet she had her award-winning cookies to taste!🍪🍪🍪
We ate some and we bought some. 😋
I’ve known Susan for many years and she has masterfully grown from a successful food blogger to selling her cookies at markets around NYC, to setting up a production facility in Brooklyn, and growing a successful online business/ brand in that time.
💥CONGRATULATIONS!💥
Thanks Amy Lee for the photo of the Cookie Queen from the Fancy Food Show!
Susan not only makes delicious cookies, but she has always shown up as a multi-talented, hard-working baker, team leader, marketer, and business woman.
This year, she's opening her first brick and mortar shop in Park Slope, Brooklyn too!
Susan built her business by showing up, sharing her wares, and talking about her cookies.
Earlier this week, I was thinking about how important it is to show up for your business.
I started my “ASK Jackie Gordon the Public Speaking Answer Lady! Livestream” two months ago to show up for Speak Up. Get Paid.
After spending a long time working in the planning and devising bubble, the livestream brought me into the arena where I’m being valuable to, interacting with, and learning about my audience.
I’m grateful about the work I did on my own beforehand, but there’s nothing like being in the game.
If you rely on speaking to sell, you have to show up, engage your audience and talk about your product/business to be successful.
You can show up in person.
You can show up on social media.
You can show up by chat, email, text, ad, webinar, podcast, livestream, smoke signals, etc., as long as you SHOW UP!
And if you show up with freaking cookies you’ll do even better! 🍪🍪🍪

CEO, Fuzzie - Voted Singapore's #1 Corporate Welfare Club | We help leading companies revolutionise employee well-being | Bringing cheers to over 100,000 employees & counting
Great example of how our Fuzzie Concierge is revolutionising employee engagement- the little things add up!
The traditional ways of doing such events are a sure recipe for staff burn out. Typically, companies get their committee members or HR to organise.
Might seem straightforward, but imagine the amount of time they need to spend to discuss, conceptualise, negotiate with vendors, settle the procurements...all over and above their day jobs.
There were multiple Fuzzie vendors involved. To create this experience, we had to be creative with the vendors to stretch the dollar so we can pack in more value.
For example, instead of the usual tea break catering, we brought our client to our partner, Cafe Q (awesome food), and negotiated a menu with a special pricing. We then created a pre-ordering system and our team on the ground coordinated with the cafe to ensure the food is made fresh with minimal waiting time after they're done with their games.
Convenience was a key factor for us, and we chose the experiences from start to finish in such way that it's just a breeze for them to enjoy without having to move about from one point to another too much.
To create the buzz, we designed the EDMs-super easy for the HR to blast out.
Time for Fuzzie team to plan and execute:
2 weeks
Time client spent:
One phone call and proposal approval
And the best part? As part of the Fuzzie experience, client doesn't need to pay any event organiser fee! It's a free concierge bundled with their Fuzzie membership.
It's the smart way, focus on the strategy and let a seasoned team create the magic. This will remove staff burn-out and make such events more enjoyable for all without burning a hole in the pocket.
We had the pleasure of organising SaladStop!'s team-building day: The Escape Challenge.
A fun-filled day starting with cute bear snacks from Paris Baguette to break the ice. Teams then get transported to Harbourfront Centre, where they battle it out in Escape Rooms, racing against time to solve the mystery.
We wrap up on a warm & fuzzy note with delicious treats from our Fuzzie partner, the floral fantasy Cafe Q, as we share the fun memories of the trip.
All the vendors are Fuzzie partners, allowing us to generate awesome savings for our client, stretching their dollar by 178%!
Corporate Communications Leader | Public Relations, Media Relations & Strategic Advisement | I help companies elevate and protect their brand through innovative communications strategies.
Recently, Las Vegas restaurant "Dirt Dog" hosted a "Bluey" themed event that was open to the public. As expected, it yielded a strong turnout from families and kids that love Bluey. However, the guests were deeply underwhelmed by the whole event as the character itself wasn't authentic, long lines, slow service, and a myriad of other issues. This left many of the children incredibly unhappy/disappointed and the restaurant received strong condemnation from those who attended despite issuing an apology.
This is not different for PR/Marketing. Expectations are at an all time high for our industry and we are frequently asked from CEO's, executives and sales teams to issue a press release or pitch a story that they're excited about. However, (as i've seen many of my peers mention lately), reporters simply aren't going to cover something that's not news worthy and a press release could potentially cause unintended embarrassment or agitate customers, if press leading up to a product launch doesn't meet the mark.
So, when you're having discussions with the company you support or your leadership team, set realistic expectations and discuss the unintended consequences of moving forward with an announcement cement or pitch. Talk about tangible alternatives that can satisfy their requests until you're truly read to do a media campaign.
How do you handle this with your client or company? What are you best practices for this type of scenario?

😂 Love this take by Dante St James
We noticed the same issue in the industry, so we created an industry-specific key dates guide to help social media managers and business owners find relevant dates to post about. No more tacos over here! 🌮

There’s only one reason to be posting about International Taco Day.
And that’s because you’re selling tacos.
The main reasons why businesses post on social media about awareness days is because they either can’t think of what else to post, or they are virtue-signalling their support of a cause without actually supporting the cause.
So before you take that big list of Awareness and Fun Days that some self-appointed social media guru threw together on Canva, think about whether it’s relevant for you to be posting about International Ice Cream Day, or National Cocker Spaniel Day. Or whatever awareness day is coming up next week.
Clarity on who you are, what you do and who it’s for along with a consistency of delivery might not be as fun as a cute dog in a sombrero with a taco in it’s paws.
But it’s what brings business - unless of course, you’re a Mexican restaurant.
A couple of weeks ago, I hosted a unique hot sauce tasting experience for friends and members of our community—a concept that combined bold flavors, high energy, and meaningful connections. Over the past 12 months, I’ve hosted over 15 events, from wine tastings to supper clubs, private dinners, networking opportunities, picnics, product launches, and more. Each one has had a simple goal: to bring like-minded individuals together to foster connections, exchange ideas, and build relationships.
As a proud Nigerian, I come from a culture that loves spice and thrives on pushing the boundaries of heat and flavor. After hosting one of my wine tastings, it hit me—why not create a tasting experience centered around sauces? Hot Sauces, like wine, are diverse, varying in flavor, heat levels, production processes, and regional influence. So, I developed this concept, something I’d never seen before.
Partnering with HotBoss Brands Limited#bumburum , and #trapkitchen, I curated a spicy, high-energy dining experience that went beyond just tasting food. Guests tried sauces ranging from mild to fiery, shared laughs, demoed their products, shared advice, and answered spicy questions that kept the energy alive.
We even rewarded those with the highest tolerance levels—those who avoided milk and water—with Gymshark gift bags. Every attendee went home with HotBoss’ flagship sauce, a small token to continue the heat at home.
The event wasn’t just about the spice; it was about stepping out of comfort zones, building camaraderie, and sparking meaningful connections. It was incredible to watch creatives, founders, and entrepreneurs bond over a shared experience while celebrating the art and culture of food.
Why did I host this event? - To explore new ways of fostering connections and create an environment where people could engage authentically.
What were the goals? - To showcase the parallels between food, creativity, and community-building, and to offer something fun and memorable.
What did we achieve? - A room full of laughter, meaningful conversations, and new bonds forged over the love of spice.
Now, the big question: Should I host another one of these activations? Would you like to join the next round of heat and creativity? Let me know your thoughts!

Team Time! 💫
Whether we’re planning our next client project or bouncing creative ideas around, catching up in person is always a highlight - especially when a certain spiced beverage returns… 🎃 🍁
Whilst we do like to catch-up over a certain hot drink from a certain coffee chain, we LOVE to support small businesses more.
If you know any great places in the Northamptonshire or Leicestershire area, let us know in the comments! Give them a shout out and we’ll add them to our list ☕️

Just a girl standing in front of her favourite cocktail stand 🥂😆✨. In my element. Doing what I love.
There’s a reason we focus on food and drink – it’s not just business, it’s pure PASSION for all the good things in life.
Supporting incredible brands like BAR BUOY Ltd. reminds me why I LOVE what I do!
Here’s to celebrating the people, the stories, and the flavours that make this industry so special 🫶🏼
