Freelancers: "I want to charge more." Also freelancers: sends proposal without any social proof When I started, my portfolio was as empty as my bank account. But here's what changed everything for me: I stopped thinking about "what I can offer" and started focusing on "what I can prove I've delivered." The difference? • "I can write great content" = meh • "Here's how my content helped Client X get 150% more traffic" = now we're talking You don't need 10 years of experience to charge more. You need proof that your work delivers results. And if you don't have that yet? Create it: - Start a newsletter - Build a niche blog - Create case studies of your own projects - Document your wins, no matter how small Because when a client asks "Why should I pay you more?" Up till recently, If you have been consistently delivering high-quality freelance work you weren’t having to put in much effort to get the phone to ring. That has changed. Freelancers - if you hate your current gig - it's your fault! Stop complaining and start reading 👇 I've been a freelance video editor for 10+ years and booked MANY gigs that I ended up hating. *** I'm writing this from one that falls into this category. *** As freelancers -- we can't be picky. We gotta do what we gotta do - including, freelancing for clients that get on our LAST NERVE. OR DO WE!!??!!? I say NO. Actually, I say "HELL NA!!!!" If you're in this situation, here's one step you can take to make a change: 1. Ask yourself: Who is my dream client? Take a moment and visualize: What is her name? What is she passionate about? What are her goals, dreams and desires? What frustrates her on the job? What does she care most about in life? What is her job title and salary? What does she do for fun? What is her relationship status? Write out all her characteristics and then go find an actual picture to represent her. Print it out and hang it on your wall. You choose your significant other carefully, so why wouldn't you take the same time and care in deciding who your dream client is? Knowing the type of client you're looking for helps you AVOID the type of client you're NOT looking for. And once you know who your dream client is, then you figure out where he/she hangs out online. I'll write about this part next time. PS. I did this exercise for my art business. Check out the attachment for an example. Think Differently.

Being a freelancer can be rewarding, but it also comes with challenges. One of the biggest is client expectations around pricing. This screenshot shows one of my clients asking me to complete a large project (4 posts per day) for a meager price ($220).   This kind of request can discourage freelancers, as it undervalues their expertise and time. Here are some of the pitfalls of undervalued freelance work: Low-quality work: When freelancers are pressured to accept low rates, they may be more likely to rush through projects or sacrifice quality. Burnout: Feeling undervalued can lead to burnout, especially for freelancers who are already juggling multiple projects. Unsustainable rates: If freelancers consistently accept low rates, it can be difficult to make a living wage. Finding the Right Value Freelance platforms can be a great way to find work. But it's important to know your worth and set prices that reflect your experience and skills. Clients who value quality work will be happy to pay a fair rate. Being freelance it's great and it's not I mean. The worries multiply. It's not just about getting coverage or links or getting your ideas signed off. It's also about having enough money to pay the tools, the bills, the mortgage, the sausage dog's toys (he destroys them in less than 24h)... It's about having enough contracts to be able to pay all that in the long(ish) term. But I’m so lucky. I mean it. I’m so, SO lucky. Because I’ve never felt underappreciated, pressured, stressed, or anxious with any of my clients since going freelance. I genuinely have the best clients at the minute and I feel so extremely lucky to work with such lovely, respectful and professional people. The reason I’m saying this is when you go freelance, most people think about two things: sexy brands and money. But a good client who gives you time, space, and trust to do your job? That’s invaluable. So, if you are thinking of going freelance, prioritise your well-being. A good client will be willing to pay you fairly but also support you in your day-to-day. And money earned while you are happy and thriving feels like more.
