Lynch Investment Planning is growing. Hiring David Lynch, CFP® was an invaluable move that will continue our upward trajectory. But in order to compete against the big dogs, it's necessary to see how they operate. I spent the last couple of days at a conference learning about the #financialplanning industry courtesy of a major mergers and acquisitions consultant. Here are some key takeaways: - RIA (registered investment advisor) firms like us are being bought up by larger firms backed by private equity groups at lightning speed - These groups want to streamline services and increase profitability so that they can sell the business - the average holding period before selling is 6 years - The financial advice business is not going away and our fees aren't going to change, but the value and service we offer to clients will increase My personal take: don't be an anonymous client of a mega firm that is just going to shuffle you around. There's still a place for small family-owned businesses like ours, and we aren't going anywhere. #finance #investing #smallbusiness
