When employers only focus on employee mental health when they are ill, they are merely slapping a bandaid on a wound. Preventative care with evidence-based and ongoing well-being initiatives, open dialogue about employee mental health and modeling the use of these programs from the top down is necessary. How is your company caring for your well-being?

As we move forward from World Mental Health Day, we remain focused on the essential role mental well-being plays in creating a healthier, more supportive workplace and care environment. At People First Healthcare, we acknowledge the critical importance of mental health in both our work and the wider community. In the healthcare and aged care sectors, we witness firsthand the profound connection between mental and physical well-being. As caregivers, it's essential that we not only support the health of those we care for but also prioritise our own mental health and that of our colleagues. A strong, resilient workforce is the foundation for delivering compassionate and effective care. We understand that mental health is not just about awareness but also about action. That’s why we are committed to fostering an environment where mental health is a priority for our staff and consumers. From open conversations to mental health resources and support programs, we strive to make well-being a part of our everyday culture. As we reflect on this important day, we reaffirm our commitment to mental well-being and remind everyone in our organisation and beyond that seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness. #MentalHealth #MentalWellbeing #PeopleFirstHealthcare #WorkplaceWellness #CareCommunity #CompassionateCare

As a Leave of Absence Specialist, I want to reflect on National Mental Health Day, which we observed last week, October, 10th. This day serves as a critical reminder of the importance of prioritizing mental health in our workplaces. It's essential to recognize that mental health challenges can impact anyone, and taking a leave of absence when necessary is a vital step toward recovery. Such a decision should never be viewed as a weakness; rather, it reflects strength and self-awareness. Empathy is key in creating a supportive work environment. By understanding and respecting the needs of our colleagues, we can foster a culture that values mental health and encourages open conversations. Let’s continue to advocate for resources and support systems that empower individuals to prioritize their mental well-being. Together, we can break down stigma and ensure that everyone feels safe to seek help when they need it. #MentalHealthMatters #LeaveOfAbsence #EmpathyInTheWorkplace

On #WorldMentalHealthDay, we want to reaffirm our commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for our colleagues and clients. Mental health is not just an individual responsibility but a collective one, and it's more critical than ever. We also recognise that diversity and mental health go hand in hand. Marginalised communities often face unique challenges due to intersectional discrimination, which profoundly affects wellbeing. As such, we understand the importance of providing culturally competent services, informed by understanding and empathy, that acknowledge and respect intersecting identities. For examples of action that employers can take to promote wellbeing and support colleagues with their mental health, take a look at this brilliant resource by Mind: https://buff.ly/3KWdKHx. At Healthcare 21 we are always looking at ways to ensure we prioritise the mental health and well-being of our employees. This video outlines some of the support we provide to our employees around their Emotional, Financial, Societal and Physical well-being. Prioritising mental health is a shared responsibility. Did you know that 4% of the entire UK population suffers with anxiety? However, only 1 in 4 people disclose their anxiety disorder to their employer. Our people and teams are at their most effective and creative when everybody feels psychologically safe and is seen, heard, and valued. By bringing together diversity and inclusion with health and wellbeing, we can drive positive transformation in workplace mental health and performance.
