On World Soil Day 5th of December 2024, we celebrated with Siemens Healthineers. A diverse group was eager to explore the ICBA fields for a Ghaf tree-planting activity and The Emirates Soil Museum tour. Little did we know we were in for a special treat to watch the biochar facility ready to burn the 100 kg of date palm and Ghaf tree residues. The center has produced biochar since 2015. The facility uses pyrolysis to convert organic matter into biochar, which enhances soil fertility, improves water retention, and sequesters carbon. Ryma showcased the Museum and with her knowledge and passion, it is always such a marvelous learning curve. Every time I learn something new about the amazing world of soil. Thank you Companies for Good & Monique Matthysen for bringing the lovely group along. #WorldSoilDay2024 #Biochar #Clay #Silt #Sand #Ghaftree

🌊 Marine Biomimicry in Action with Microphyt 🌊 In september, we wrapped up the Microphyt Symposium on Marine Biomimicry & Cosmetic Innovations at the Planet Ocean Aquarium in Montpellier! Over 50 participants joined us in september to explore how marine life can inspire sustainable and high-performance innovations. ➡️ Discover how Microphyt draws inspiration from marine life to shape its innovative technologies for a sustainable future! 🌊 Nature-Inspired Photobioreactors : our Camargue photobioreactors mimick the dynamic flow of the sea. By replicating the motion of waves, these systems ensure efficient gas exchange, nutrient distribution, and optimal light access for microalgae. 💓 Gentle as the Human Heart Inspired by the heart's careful circulation, Microphyt's gentle membrane pumps operate at low frequencies, safeguarding the delicate microalgae cells. This method allows them to thrive and maximize bioactivity. 🌿 Microalgae: Powerhouses of Adaptability: Microalgae withstand extreme conditions, and Microphyt’s ingredients harness this resilience. Microphyt’s innovations reflect nature’s wisdom, offering sustainable solutions for industries across beauty, food, and more. By embracing marine biomimicry, they are paving the way for eco-conscious advancements. At UbiQD, our work with #quantumdots goes beyond the ordinary applications seen in displays and lighting. With UbiGro we've developed a greenhouse film that integrates proprietary quantum dots to optimize sunlight for agriculture. By finely controlling the emission properties of our quantum dots, we convert less useful parts of the sunlight spectrum, such as UV and blue light, into wavelengths that plants can utilize more efficiently. The tailored light #spectrum significantly increases photosynthetic efficiency, boosting crop yields by as high as 30%. This nuanced approach to light management illustrates an important advancement for controlled environment #agriculture, offering a sustainable solution to meet the increasing demand to feed our global population. 🌍 Celebrating International Microorganism Day! 🦠 Microbes have existed for approximately 3.7 billion years, but it wasn't until September 17, 1683, that Antonie van Leeuwenhoek wrote to the Royal Society of London, detailing his observation of the first single-celled organisms through his microscope. This discovery forever changed how we understand life on Earth. To honor this scientific milestone, International Microorganism Day shines a light on the many ways microbes impact our world today. From life-saving antibiotics and vaccines to biofuels, microbes also contribute to better food production, clean up oil spills, manage waste, and even improve soil for agriculture. These tiny organisms are key players in the most important advancements shaping our health, environment, and future. At AMCAN Biotech Ingredients, we’re dedicated to supporting research and industry with our specialized ingredients that enhance microbial growth. Microbes may be small, but their impact is enormous, and we're excited to be part of the journey. Join global events https://lnkd.in/ex6RcJgG and learn more about them. #InternationalMicroorganismDay #bacteria #biotechnology

AWARE TIP #1 Did you know ? 🌿 Plant roots thrive in a well-aerated environment. So do fishes, because they breathe dissolved oxygen in the water. 🐟 Anyway their breathing can deplete it and leave the plant roots with too little oxygen around. ⚠️ That's why in most systems we have 2 tanks for fishes and plants connected by pipes, and not just one shared tank where they live together. #aquaponics, #aquaculture, #circularity, #EUResearch, #awareponics European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) INNOVA - Technology Transfer and Valorisation Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) Dipartimento di Ingegneria dell'Innovazione UniSalento Luiss Guido Carli University AIGUANATURA DELS PORTS SL
