When you sell into an existing category, there are known GTM channels and expectations you can play into. Anish Dhar points out that category creation isn't just about messaging or product but you have to discover and define all those GTM patterns anew.

🚀 Scale x Cortex: Building Products People "Don't Need" 🚀 Thrilled to share our latest edition where Aryaman Banerjee and I had a great conversation with Anish Dhar about the challenges of creating entirely new product categories. "I was probably sending 1000s of cold emails a week to everyone I could think of... I'd get 2 replies, one would be 'not interested'" Despite this initial resistance, Cortex (backed by Sequoia Capital, IVP, Y Combinator, and Scale Venture Partners) grew from zero customers to a $470M valuation by mastering one crucial skill: turning skeptical "we don't need this" prospects into enthusiastic champions. Anish shares candid insights about: + Why technical validation isn't enough + How to identify and empower internal champions + Converting pain points into purchase orders + Building conviction when no market exists 👉 Read the full story in the original post below! #DeveloperTools #CategoryCreation #YCombinator #ProductStrategy #SCALE #VentureCapital #TechStartups #Engineering #StartupGrowth #SeriesC #Sales

Simple ask: I am curious to understand what tech leaders or practitioners are seeing when it comes to test coverage.. What is bothering you now regarding that process? Product advancement? Wasted dev hours? Dinner or coffee on me if in NYC - if not then a quick video chat would suffice. Want to really hear more about your thoughts on this.

Best advice I got from Techstars: Build FAST and DON'T fall in love with your product (fall in love with the problem) This has become my daily mantra... maybe 10x a day.... if I'm being honest. Credit to Misti Cain for burning this into my brain. Lately, I’ve been thinking about ways to track whether we’re staying true to this advice. I started by loosely comparing our number of deployments to our MRR to establish a baseline ratio. From there, I track the data to identify when deployments significantly outpace the baseline. Here’s the thought process: If the number of deployments consistently exceeds our MRR growth rate over time, it could signal that we’re falling into a common trap—building what WE want instead of what the MARKET truly needs. What do you think? How could this be improved?

An really interesting read from the perspective of the tech star founders themselves and the courage and decisions required to taking funding during the downcycle - the difficulty of thinking you're "going backwards" but needing to take a step forward for investment and innovation.
