"There is always something for which to be THANKFUL. When I was laid off, I’ll admit—it was hard to feel thankful. I faced uncertainty, frustration, and plenty of questions about what comes next. But in the midst of it all, I learned an important lesson: ✨ Your value doesn’t disappear when your job does. Losing my role gave me time to reflect on my own skills, talents, and passions. It also gave me an opportunity to focus on helping others. I found a renewed purpose in supporting professionals who, like me, are navigating uncertain waters. 📝 Through resume writing and career guidance, I’ve been able to help others: ✅ Rediscover their strengths ✅ Reframe their experiences ✅ Move forward with confidence If you’re in that same position right now—laid off, unsure, or overwhelmed—know this: 💡 You have talents that matter. 🌟 Your experiences are valuable. 🎯 Your next opportunity is out there, even if it doesn’t feel like it yet. Lean into your strengths, ask for support when you need it, and take a moment to focus on what you do have. For me, I’m thankful for the chance to turn my setback into someone else’s breakthrough. 🙌 Let’s lift each other up. What are you thankful for in your career journey so far?

Here's an incomplete list of ways of supporting colleagues - being a cheerleader for them (this is what you are awesome at, here's why I think you are ready..), being a supportive critical friend (reading their application and helping them get their narrative clear, check the evidence they are providing), giving a mock/practice interview, sharing your experience of the promotion process, sharing your previously successful application, helping them to benchmark themselves, providing a testimonial/peer review of teaching, celebrating or commiserating after the event. Having spent three years on a promotion committee I'm very happy to share my knowledge with colleagues about what the committee is looking for and what types of questions they can expect in the interview. Good mentorship is a key to successful promotion. Knowledge of the process and expectations is invaluable as there is enormous variation and nuance across institutions. What would you add to the list above?
It's that time of year when many people are starting to think about promotions and putting their applications together so if you can help a colleague, now is the time to offer assistance! I will forever be grateful to my network of friends and colleagues, but I know not everyone has that, or is comfortable asking for assistance. So if you can, make yourself available, and make it known you're there to help - no one should miss out on the opportunity of a job or promotion because they feel alone.

I am grateful for all the warm congratulations and kind words regarding my new career journey with Sobeys💖For those who have asked about my job search journey, I’d like to take this opportunity to give back to our community by sharing a few tips that helped me along the way. Remember, this is a personal journey, and there's no one-size-fits-all approach, but I hope you find some of these insights useful. 📚✨ 1. 🔍 Discover Your "Why" Understanding what drives you is crucial. I spent time reflecting on my motivations and values, inspired by Simon Sinek's "Find Your Why.". Basic question like "why do I want to work?" is essential. This clarity helped me target opportunities that truly resonated with my personal and professional goals. 2. 🎯 Focus on Quality Over Quantity Instead of mass applying, I focused on roles that aligned with my "why." This meant fewer applications, but each one was tailored and meaningful. It’s better to apply for a few positions with enthusiasm and precision than to send out hundreds of generic applications. 3. 🌐 Leverage Your Network Sometimes I can find inspiration in the stories of others. It's like borrowing their success: by seeing what others have achieved, I can envision similar possibilities for myself. These profiles can serve as powerful reminders of what's possible and motivate us to reach our own goals. 4. 📖 Invest in Self-Learning I dedicated time to learning new skills by reading books, articles, and taking online courses. Continuous learning is key to staying relevant and confident. 5. 🧘♂️ Reflect and Adapt Regular reflection on my job search strategy was vital. I constantly asked myself: *Am I staying true to my core motivations? *Are the roles I'm pursuing truly aligning with my values and passions? *What can I improve in my approach? This helped me stay focused and adapt as needed. 6. Final Thoughts 💭 Each of our journeys is unique. What worked for me might not work for everyone, but I hope my experiences provide some inspiration or insight. The most important thing is to stay true to yourself and keep learning and growing. Remember, there is a job out there that is perfectly aligned with your unique skills, passions, and values. Stay persistent and keep searching, because that ideal opportunity is waiting for you to discover it. Trust in your journey and remain open to the possibilities ahead. #NewBeginnings #CareerJourney #FindYourWhy #QualityOverQuantity #Networking #SelfLearning #ReflectAndAdapt #CareerAdvice #StayTrueToYourself

As we approach Thanksgiving, I'm reflecting on an often-overlooked truth about job searching...gratitude isn't just for the dinner table. It's a powerful career strategy. When facing career transitions, it's easy to focus on what's missing. But research shows that actively practicing gratitude: - Reduces stress and increases resilience - Improves our ability to network authentically - Helps maintain perspective during challenges Three ways to apply gratitude in your job search: - Start each day listing 3 skills you're thankful to have - After each interview, note one thing you learned - Reach out to past colleagues or mentors to express appreciation The most resilient and successful job seekers I've worked with maintain optimism not by ignoring challenges but by balancing them with genuine gratitude. What are you grateful for in your career journey? Share them below.

✨ Exciting Update ✨ Today I signed an offer letter with an amazing company. This marks the beginning of a new chapter in my career, and I couldn't be more thrilled to share what's next with y'all. But first, let's reflect on the journey that brought me here. Since starting full-time work at age 17, I've always moved from one opportunity to the next with ease and intention — and without a break. My career has been on a constant upward trajectory until November 2023, when I faced major employment uncertainty for the first time. My dream job ended when my company had to lay me off. What followed was a familiar story to the LinkedIn community: countless applications, growing uncertainty, numerous interviews and project presentations, and many instances of being “second choice” out of a pool of thousands of applicants. It was tough, but I stayed afloat thanks to temporary jobs and a strong network of mentors. They taught me an important lesson: never settle for less than what truly drives you. If it's not a "hell yes," it's a no. Once I started focusing on roles that would ignite my passions where I could truly see myself thriving, the opportunities started to roll in and my confidence started to return. Remember, being laid off isn’t a reflection of your worth. It's a reflection of the times. And what a time to be alive. I promise you this — you are just as capable as ever and you have EXACTLY what one company needs. Your time is soon. Pursue the jobs that ignite your passion. Don't give up—you've got this. I can't wait to share details about my new role in a few days. But first, some bubbly. 🥂 It’s been a long trail, but I’m happy to say the view from the summit is beautiful. ⛰

Lately, it seems that complaining about jobs has become a norm, —whether on social media or in conversations with friends, peers, and family. While it's normal to have good days and bad days, and to face both positives and negatives in any job, we often overlook one crucial aspect: GRATITUDE. We frequently forget how many job seekers are striving for the very position we hold, which could be their dream job. We also tend to overlook the rejections we faced to land this job ourselves. It’s important to appreciate the opportunities our current job provides —whether it’s acquiring new skills, earning an income, or gaining experience that helps us advance in our careers. Instead of focusing on the negatives, let’s express gratitude for the job we have and strive to create a positive work environment, even when it seems common to criticize jobs.
