At CBC News, public trust and connection are built first in local communities, through local service. Today, we launched the next batch of our local news streaming channels, announced plans to hire up to 25 journalists in underserved communities in 2025, and shared details on four new daily local podcasts. Brodie will these streaming channels be accessible in the US? There is a large expat community here that would be interested in gaining better access to Canadian news.
A great win for local journalism and much needed to fill the gap in communities following the closure of dozens of community newspapers across Canada last year by the Toronto Star following the publication swap with Post Media'. Been waiting a long time for this. Excited about the Kingston startup.
didn't CBC just lay off many employees? Now you're hiring?
Love This 👏🎉
That’s great news, pardon the pun !

1moThis is certainly welcome news. Could I ask that the CBC consider devoting some resources to Durham Region in its next round of expansion? With a population of over 700,000, the combined communities of Ajax, Clarington, Oshawa, Pickering and Whitby are among the fastest growing cities in the country, yet have become virtual news deserts with the closures of local newspapers. Saying that coverage can be provided out of Toronto or Kingston simply isn’t enough.
