Mentoring vs. Coaching: A subtle but powerful distinction. It’s easy to blur the lines between mentoring and coaching, but each serves a distinct purpose—and understanding the difference can release power for greater professional growth. 🌿 Mentoring is about fostering a relationship, where a trusted advisor offers guidance, shares wisdom, and helps you navigate life’s complexities. It’s rooted in experience and genuine care, a partnership designed to help you grow holistically. 🎯 Coaching is more goal-oriented and time-sensitive. A coach works alongside you to achieve specific outcomes, pushing you to unlock your full potential and reach measurable results. It’s focused, driven, and deeply impactful. I’m fortunate to experience both worlds—coaching clients and mentoring as part of the Protégé - BusinessMentoring program, founded by the dynamic Louise J Tagliante. One of the true joys in my mentoring is working with my current mentee, Kirsten Ee. Her curiosity, determination, and delightful spirit make every interaction a rewarding one. She is a perfect example of a great mentor-mentee match! Together, we’ve embraced new ideas, seized opportunities, and celebrated her progress. I’m incredibly excited to witness her continued growth and achievements. If you’ve benefited from either a mentor or a coach, I’d love to hear your stories. What has been the most impactful aspect of either journey? #Mentorship #Coaching #GrowthMindset #Leadership #PayItForward

Last week, I kicked off my personalised coaching sessions with Times Ten Coaching, an initiative that’s been introduced to help us shape our individual goals. As a former mentee and mentor with Elevate Mentoring, which provides mentorship for people within the events industry, I already understand the powerful impact that good coaching can have. If you’re thinking about getting some extra support, or volunteering to become a mentor, here’s why I think you should get stuck in! ⏲️ Taking time out from a busy schedule might seem like a luxury, but in reality this downtime can help you to gain a wider perspective, where you can really focus on your personal objectives. 🧑 Coaching is a great opportunity to reflect on what you enjoy about your role and focus your development. By thinking out loud, and chatting through with a trusted mentor, you’ll find new ways to enhance your skills and knowledge, so you can continue making a valuable contribution. ➕ Everyone I know is quick to point out their weaknesses, but having confidence in your own strengths can be harder. Coaching can help you to understand those successes, and how you can build on them. 🧑🤝 I love being able to confide in someone who isn’t directly linked to the company, because it gives you greater freedom to discuss your aspirations openly. It’s empowering to plan my next steps, and gives me a renewed sense of motivation at work. #coaching #mentoring

On Monday we ran a poll asking if there was a difference between mentoring and coaching. Everyone had the same reply implying that Mentoring and Coaching are two distinct ways of helping people learn, grow and succeed. To further expand on these concepts… Mentoring is a very specific, focused way of helping, and it requires an experienced senior in a specific domain to pass on knowledge to a junior within that domain. The mentor is like a knowledge hub. The way the mentor would communicate is “When I was in that situation, this is what I did.” Then they leave the mentees to make sense of that for themselves. Not instructing or advising the mentee. The concept of ‘Coach’ or ‘Executive Coach’ in business emerged a few decades ago, and it has become a fast-growing profession since. Coaching simply helps in finding the best answer for yourself. Coaches need to understand that they are there as coaches for only a short period of the individual’s journey, to help the individual learn, grow and ultimately become their own best coach. The coach is not there to tell- they are there to help. Essentially through coaching, we help you become an expert in your own life. #mentoring #coaching

Forget sleeping in 💤 — there's nothing more rewarding than a Saturday morning spent mentoring a coaching student 🏅 My highlight? Hearing her revelation about how her context shaped the direction of the session even before it began. Mentoring is one of the spaces I cherish most in my coaching career. Supporting coaches to unlock exponential potential 🚀 through a robust feedback mechanism is what propels their coaching skills to new heights. We don’t know what we don’t know. Over the last 9 years, I’ve seen that while self-reflection is crucial, stepping into a mentoring relationship can 10❌ the impact through insightful feedback. Sure, you can do it on your own – there’s a time and place for that. I’ve been there. But the best results I’ve experienced come from the support of another, revealing blind spots and opening doors 🚪 to new possibilities for the client. If you’re a coach and want to: 🚀 Develop your coaching skills, competence, and confidence 🚀 Unlock exponential potential 🚀 Integrate consciousness principles into your coaching practice 🚀 Learn a new methodology 🚀 Renew your ICF ACC or PCC credential and need mentoring 📩 DM me for more information. Let's elevate your coaching journey together! 🌟 #ICF #Mentoring #Coaching #Performance #GrowthMindset #Success

Coaching and mentoring are interchangeable terms but in the purist sense, are two completely different processes. Coaching inspires someone to perform beyond their perceived capabilities, encouraging the client to find ways to solve their own problems. Conversely, mentoring is when someone uses their direct personal experience to help mentees learn what to do. In short, mentoring involves showing someone what to do and how to do it, whereas coaching involves showing someone why they should do something. In reality it's not a 'this' OR a 'that' - many of our coaching programmes involve some mentoring, and our mentoring programmes involve some coaching - it's about supporting the coachee in whatever way they need. Let us worry about whether you need a coach, a mentor or a bit of both. Just tell us what you want to achieve and we'll find you a perfect expert to help. #executivecoaching #leadershipcoaching #coachingandmentoring

What does being proactive in coaching and mentoring mean? It’s partly about implementing and putting to use the techniques and tools that you’ve been provided with. Try them out and see how they work for you. The other part is about being proactive in letting your coach or mentor know what’s working so that they can create the right experience for you. This is going to look different for everyone (which is why you can’t do coaching like a painting-by-numbers set and also why my job is never boring). You might need a gentle push out of your comfort zone. Maybe you’re already feeling challenged and want to explore how to change that. Working proactively with your coach or mentor should result in some interesting insights about yourself, your direction of development and how to thrive. They are there to be your guide and want to know how things are working out. And if you don’t feel comfortable telling them honestly, that might be a sign that the coach isn’t the right one for you. How comfortable have you felt giving feedback to a coach or mentor? #Coaching #Mentorship #ProfessionalDevelopment #LeadershipDevelopment #PersonalGrowth #ProactiveCoaching #ClientEngagement #OpenCommunication #GrowthMindset #AskACoach #MentorMatch #CoachingTips #GetCoached #richersolutions

As well as fulfilling the ICF requirement for coach mentoring I focus on nurturing you as a coach. I know many coaches are apprehensive about ICF – they would like to have the credential and the greater professional credibility that gives them, but have heard that it’s difficult to get. hey’re worried that they won’t be good enough or experienced enough for mentoring, that they will embarass themselves or be told they’re rubbish as a coach. I demystify it all and take you step by step through the process, and hold your hand if you need me to, so that you increase your coaching confidence and develop your coaching skills. Here is what coaches have to say about the programme: 🔹 “𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐬 𝐬𝐨 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐡!
