I'm thrilled to share that our paper, "A Generative Artificial Intelligence Empowered Chatbot: System Usability and Student Teachers’ Experience" was presented in June 2024 at the 20th International Conference on Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS 2024) in Thessaloniki, Greece. Our study explores the integration of advanced AI in education through the VIP-Bot, a Discord chatbot that leverages OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 model. We focused on its usability and the perspectives of Student Teachers' using it for academic tasks. The results reveal promising acceptance, effectiveness, and motivational impacts. This research not only contributes to understanding AI's potential in educational settings but also opens doors for innovative teaching and learning methods. On November 27, Think Tank AlterContacts hosted a Masterclass "Artificial Intelligence for Students" at the Aeres University of Applied Sciences Dronten. In this session, guided by our co-founder Julia K. Skupchenko, the participants explored the current developments of Artificial intelligence in the context of education and its applications for university students. They learnt how AI could be used at school responsibly and discussed what challenges and opportunities it presents for their learning journey. The session included practical exercises to enhance their understanding. After introducing the AI4VET4AI project, the key topics covered were AI use in schools; generative AI and its peculiarities; various types of AI; and Generative AI detection. In the second part of the Masterclass, the expert presented the AI Competency Framework for students by UNESCO. The session was completed with an exploration of new AI tools the students could use for creativity. I am also passionate about providing opportunities for students to strengthen their brain in order to achieve lifelong learning. It is our brain that will help us get through life, to learn, to discover, to experience. I am passionate about putting the Brain in the Education equation. As educators it is time to start thinking and planning for of the needs of our students and their futures - not the content of an academic subject. Students need a strong capacity to reason, to make decisions, to weigh up options. They need to know when AI is not providing truthful information; when they are being presented with biases. To do this, students need very strong cognitive functioning in Symbol Relations.
