#Domesticviolence affects millions annually, but reported statistics likely underestimate its true prevalence due to systemic, legal, social, and emotional barriers hindering #survivors from reporting. For decades, Michael Reese has invested its resources into preventing and addressing the impact of domestic violence in #Chicagoland, supporting both survivors and those who cause harm to break the cycle of violence. Through community input and partner feedback, we’ve learned three critical lessons shaping our work. By leveraging these insights, we can work towards a future where no case of domestic violence goes unreported, and every individual receives the support they need to reclaim their safety and autonomy. #preventdomesticviolence Learn more when you visit https://lnkd.in/gd6gTyaa

Today, we stand together to raise awareness about domestic violence and its impact on individuals, families, and communities. At the Women’s Initiative, we are committed to empowering girls to recognize the importance of healthy relationships, safety, and self-worth. Domestic violence can happen to anyone, regardless of age, background, or circumstance. That's why it's critical to educate and equip our youth, especially girls, with the tools they need to identify warning signs and seek help if they or someone they know is in danger. 💜 Join us in supporting survivors, advocating for safe communities, and working towards a future where everyone can live free from violence. Let’s break the cycle of abuse and create pathways to safety, healing, and empowerment. It's truly devastating to hear about another woman losing her life today in the States’ Central West due to domestic violence. These recurring tragedies highlight the urgent need for comprehensive measures to prevent such senseless acts and protect vulnerable individuals from harm. We must collectively address the root causes of domestic violence and provide robust support systems for those at risk. Every life lost underscores the imperative for society to take decisive action and create a safer environment for all. It must stop!! #domesticviolenceawareness #domesticviolenceprevention

As we mark the beginning of Domestic Violence Prevention Month, we are faced with the troubling reality of escalating domestic violence incidents across Australia. It is a critical time for us to reaffirm our collective commitment to combating this pervasive issue. Recent data reveals a concerning increase in deaths, from one woman a week, to one woman every 4.4 days in Australia. This is NOT okay and this emphasises the urgency for immediate action. I’m tired of reading about another government “inquiry” or “review”. We know the issue and we need tangible action that protects the victim and has real consequences for the perpetrator. This month serves as a poignant reminder that domestic violence is unequivocally unacceptable. Every conversation and every action counts when it comes to supporting survivors and preventing future violence. I am calling on community leaders, policymakers, and all Australians to join forces in strengthening the support networks for survivors and in implementing robust prevention strategies. Together, we can make a difference. Let us unite in saying “it’s not ok” and pledge to make Australia a safer place for all.
