Rise and Thrive, Good Morning. Domestic Violence Awareness Month, observed every October, is a time to raise awareness about the devastating impact of domestic violence and to advocate for change, support, and healing. It’s a call to action for individuals, communities, and organizations to come together in solidarity with survivors, while also addressing the systemic issues that allow domestic violence to persist. As well as spending the month advocating and spreading awareness, there is one question I implore you to reconsider asking. That question is “why do they stay, and/or keeping returning”. We already know the general answer to this. The question we may want to focus on is “why are abusers are abusing, and how can we help them?” Domestic Violence Awareness Month serves as a vital reminder that domestic violence is a public health issue that requires urgent attention. By raising awareness, supporting survivors, advocating for policy changes, and focusing on prevention, we can move closer to a world where every individual is free from fear, harm, and abuse. Let’s use this month to not only talk about domestic violence but to take action to end it. #riseandthrive #peersupport #straightupcare #heypeers #TGN #DMP #grotogether #howcanihelp #mswloading #domesticviolenceawareness

The stigma surrounding domestic violence is one of the biggest barriers to ending this silent epidemic. For too long, survivors have been burdened with shame and silence, while the real responsibility lies with the perpetrators. We must change this narrative. Victims of domestic violence are not the ones who should feel ashamed—it's the perpetrators who deserve that burden. By speaking out, supporting survivors, and challenging the misconceptions around domestic violence, we can create a society where victims are empowered to seek help without fear of judgment. Let's remove the stigma and place the responsibility where it truly belongs. Together, we can create a culture of understanding, support, and accountability. #EndTheStigma #DomesticViolenceAwareness #SupportSurvivors #BreakTheSilence

How to Support Someone Experiencing Domestic Violence: If someone you care about tells you they are experiencing domestic violence, your response can make all the difference. It’s important to listen without judgment and offer your support. Sometimes, the most powerful thing you can say is simply: "I'm glad you told me. How can I support you?" These words let them know that they are not alone and that you believe them. Victims of domestic violence need to feel heard, validated, and supported. Avoid making judgments or telling them what to do. Instead, offer options, listen, and be there when they need you. Remember, leaving an abusive relationship is a complex and difficult process. Lives in Transition (LIT) is here to provide the support they need. Encourage them to reach out to us for guidance, safety, and resources.
