As I was looking for Brene Brown's video on empathy vs. sympathy to send to a client, I happily discovered that there was another animated short that was done of her talking about blame. She ties blame to empathy and how it affects accountability. Why was I looking for a video on empathy? My client is a leader at a construction industry company, who has had a LONG tenure there, and is someone that his peers come to when things go wrong. What also happens is he then gets in the pit with people and finds himself getting frustrated with the situation, with people and had the perspective that a situation that went awry was a huge failure even though in the end, they found a solution and it got handled with success. He also has a tendency to dive in and fix things for people when even his Leader is suggesting that it will be important for him to transform this behavior. He suffers from the belief that "If I don't do it, no one else will." Do you suffer from that too? It's a common trap for many Managers/Leaders. There can be situations where you might be the only person that can do it. Although most often I would gather there is someone else who can. More about that another time... I'll just leave this here for you to enjoy. I think I'm going to watch it a few times. So much to take in. https://lnkd.in/eVX63rnU If you want a confidant, someone who will be objective and and support you in being your best self, I am here as your partner to activate you operating at your full potential. Are you operating at your full potential? If you did, how would that impact your life as a whole? What is your problem solving strategy when challenges come up? What would you say is the distinction between empathy and sympathy, and how that shows up in real time for you? Let's work together. Send me a DM. In a recent live culture call with our clients led by Diane Salter, she shared this funny yet profound video from Brené Brown on 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗲. As a leader, how do you deal with employees who always blame others and never take responsibility? One of my favorite tactics is to put on my 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘁 on when it comes to holding someone accountable. By approaching the situation with curiosity, you decrease their defensiveness, just a bit and open the door for a conversation. 𝘐’𝘮 𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘺 𝘺𝘰𝘶’𝘳𝘦 𝘣𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳 _____. 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘣𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮? 𝘐’𝘮 𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘺 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘪𝘵’𝘴 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘦𝘭𝘴𝘦’𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴. How does this video resonate with YOU? Are there any tactics you've used when dealing with people who blame others? https://lnkd.in/e7cE_VWC #blame #accountability #leadershipdevelopment

In a challenging few weeks one thing has really shone through around the critical nature of truly taking ownership and responsibility as a leader. Your reality is a reflection of you certainly at a personal level but the job of a real lean leader is not only this but to support, elevate and provide genuine care and empathy for the people around you - your peers, your leaders, your reports, your suppliers and your customers. #chaostocalm #lean

As professionals, we are constantly striving to improve ourselves and our teams. But the truth is, we all have our weaknesses. And by acknowledging and working on them, we set a powerful example for our teams. By being transparent and open about our weaknesses, we create a culture of growth and learning. We show our team that it's ok to make mistakes and that we are all constantly evolving. #embracingweakness #leadbyexample #professionaldevelopment #leadership #behonest
