Our Mission at COP 29: Leading the Global South’s Voice for Climate Justice At COP 29 in Baku, the Climate Hub Forum (CHF) stood as a beacon of advocacy for the Global South, championing the rights of those disproportionately affected by climate change. Representing vulnerable nations and communities, CHF actively participated in high-level meetings, workshops, and collaborative dialogues, emphasizing the urgent need for equity, climate justice, and actionable commitments from global powers. Climate Justice: A Call to Responsibility: Our message was clear: the people and regions that suffer most without contributing significantly to climate change must be at the heart of global decisions. With the Global North responsible for over 75% of historical emissions, it is imperative that they take accountability through fair financing, technology transfers, and transformative policies. Climate justice demands actions that go beyond pledges—rooted in reparations and support for adaptation, resilience, and sustainable development in the Global South. Strategic Collaborations at COP 29: CHF took a leading role in convening critical sessions at the Pakistan Pavilion, fostering dialogues on sustainable development, climate finance, and innovative approaches to climate resilience. Our partnerships with global stakeholders, including Pakistan’s Ministry of Climate Change, further strengthened these initiatives, demonstrating how collaboration can drive meaningful progress. By creating inclusive spaces, CHF ensured that voices from vulnerable communities were heard, and practical solutions were shared globally. Our mission transcends national or institutional boundaries. As an independent advocacy platform, CHF calls for powerful and unified collaborations that prioritize people, the planet, and nature above political or economic interests. Key priorities include: Fair Climate Finance Mechanisms: Accessible funding for vulnerable nations, aligned with their needs. Equity in Policy-Making: Centering the Global South in global climate strategies. Nature-Based Solutions: Highlighting biodiversity preservation as a cornerstone of climate resilience. Strengthening Our Global Role: As our journey at COP 29 concludes, CHF reaffirms its commitment to empowering the Global South to become a unified and powerful voice in climate negotiations. By leveraging our partnerships and leadership, we aim to inspire global action rooted in justice and sustainability. Together, we can create a future where decisions respect the rights of those most impacted and prioritize the harmony of humanity and nature. Another day ☀️Another certification✅ All glory to God 🙏🏾 Find out how to get yours ⬇️⬇️⬇️ 🍃Care About Climate did a thing👌🏾✨ As a climate justice advocate who understands the importance of high level meetings and international gatherings where global decisions are made, it is imperative that you are equipped with all the information and knowledge you can get. 🍃In preparation for #COP29, I took the ICPAC COP29 course and it was more than I could have imagined. It covered UNFCCC processes, COP, an overview of climate change and climate justice with respect to every country and so on. To name a few take-aways; 🐬 #COP29 is often reffered to as the finance COP, 🐬 Not all countries bear the same responsibility for climate action whereby developed countries would provide financial support dependent on climate contributions, 🐬Africa has the least contributions to climate emissions but most affected by climate change as it is warming more than the rest of the world, 🐬 Ensuring sustainable ocean management and Some solutions using oceans include shutting down offshore oil and gas, using renewable ocean energy, decarbonization of ships and fishing sectors etc are relevant methods to mitigate climate change, 🐬 At least 2456 fossil fuel lobbyists were granted access to #COP28 and they were instrumental in advocating for fossil phase down instead of a phase out. 🐬 Women and children are most vulnerable and affected by climate change particularly black women, indigenous women and women of color. 🌎We’re hoping to see a lot of changes at #COP this year including enhanced transparency (all delegates are advised to share their affiliations), inclusion of SIDs, vulnerable countries, marginalized groups, just transition initiatives, climate finance and funding for adaptation goals especially in vulnerable communities. 🌎I am particularly interested in these thematic areas; ACE, health, gender, Justice transition and loss and damage. 🤔I’m interested in them all! Haha, But particularly those I have mentioned 👌🏾 #COP29 would be taking place at Baku Azerbaijan from November 11-22nd, 2024. Do you have any plans for COP this year? If you do, feel free to share in the comments section 💬 https://lnkd.in/d74SFMfQ #COP29 #youthadvocacy #climatejustice #climateandhealth #Ecodoc

To Sum it UP at #COP29 The Presidency has rolled out new texts on key climate topics, including the NCQG and Just Transition Work Programme, after a night of intense consultations. While we await the details on Article 6, the journey continues with more iterations and closing plenaries ahead. The timing may be uncertain, but our commitment to a sustainable future remains steadfast! Friday's discussions on the #NCQG text revealed a stark consensus: it's simply not good enough. With a target of USD $250bn by 2035 deemed disappointing, many argue we can and must aim higher! 🚀 The mitigation package feels like a 'minimum viable' option, lacking the robust commitments needed for genuine progress. Meanwhile, the GGA maintains some consistency but raises concerns with vague references that could hinder developing nations. As we approach the final hours of COP in Baku, the stakes have never been higher. We need a “breakthrough”, not a breakdown! The world is watching as the Presidency holds the key to unite Parties in the fight against the climate crisis. 💰 It’s time for real commitments—beyond USD $250bn—from developed nations. Let's phase out inefficient fossil fuel subsidies and prioritize adaptation financing. The #NCQG text must reflect our urgent need for action and collaboration. 🌍💔 The latest climate negotiations are raising eyebrows and igniting passions. AOSIS expresses deep disappointment, questioning, "How low can we go?" Ali Mohamed highlights the inadequacy of a $250 billion/year target, while Chris Bowen sees a glimmer of hope amidst controversy. Tina Stege's powerful words resonate: small island nations are on the brink, demanding not just sympathy but action. Oxfam calls it a "shameful failure of leadership." As we navigate this complex landscape, we must push for ambitious solutions that prioritize our planet and vulnerable communities. #ClimateAction #ClimateJustice #COP29

#InTheNews - Op-ed ✍️ "At its #COP in Paris in 2015, the UNFCCC had agreed that a new and collective - not individual country commitments - quantified financing goal would be established. In the decade since, several key matters remain stalled, including the elusive number for the NCQG that developing countries want to know and are calling for. India has called for $1 trillion a year", writes Mr Manjeev Singh Puri, Distinguished Fellow, TERI - The Energy and Resources Institute, in his op-ed for NDTV. 📰 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 👉 https://lnkd.in/gTjNVdnF #COP29 #ClimateAction #G20Summit #ClimateFinance #SustainableDevelopment #ClimateChange #ParisAgreement #ClimateJustice
