The Y90 procedure, also known as radioembolization, involves delivering high doses of radiation directly to liver tumors through tiny beads loaded with the radioactive isotope yttrium-90. This targeted approach allows for the treatment of cancerous liver tumors while minimizing exposure to healthy tissue. It's a minimally invasive procedure, offering a treatment option that focuses on the affected area without significantly impacting the patient's overall health. Congratulations, Dr. Diamond, Andre, and the DI team! #diagnosticimaging #technologyinhealthcare
This month, the Interventional Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging teams at Mississauga Hospital achieved a major milestone by performing the first Y90 procedure at THP! 🎉 Y90, medically referred to as radioembolization, is an innovative type of radiation therapy used to target cancerous liver tumors. Offering this minimally invasive procedure at THP, means that our patients can continue to receive the right care, at the right time, in the right place, all while being close to home. 🏡💖 Congratulations to our amazing teams for this special accomplishment! #TakingCareOfOurCommunity #Y90Procedure

🌸Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🌸 Whether or not a patient can access the care they need shouldn't be up for debate. We believe that your patients deserve uncomplicated access to MRI scans, especially because 98% of SCS patients are expected to need at least 1 MRI within 10 years of implant.(1) See risk information: https://bit.ly/4fhPDBJ Consider how your decisions today could impact optimal patient care down the road. Our innovative treatment method for tongue cancer utilizes radiation therapy in conjunction with a unique, internationally patented tongue-immobilizing spacer. This device employs suction to stabilize and secure the tongue in a fixed position, ensuring precise and targeted delivery of radiation. By minimizing tongue movement during treatment, we aim to enhance the effectiveness of radiation therapy while reducing potential side effects to surrounding healthy tissues. The sagittal plane MRI video clearly illustrates that the tongue remains entirely motionless, even when the patient swallows. This powerful evidence showcases the efficacy of our tongue-immobilizing device in ensuring consistent and precise tongue positioning during the course of radiation therapy. #TongueCancer #SBRT #MRI #Cooqoo #SpaceORAL

So is it just a chair? Absolutely not. We believe this is the future of radiotherapy, allowing for treatment in a more natural, upright position. This approach aims to provide greater comfort, enables direct patient-therapist communication, and streamlines the treatment process for better efficiency and effectiveness. Moreover, it has just received 510(k) regulatory clearance in the US, opening doors for potential advancements in cancer treatments such as FLASH RT, BNCT, Carbon Ion Therapy, and Ultra-Compact Proton therapy. This 'chair' represents a more human way of treating with radiation therapy. 🌟 #Radiotherapy #Uprightradiotherapy #Innovation #Healthcare #Patientcare #Medicaltechnology

Local recurrence in malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumours: multicentre cohort study ➡️https://lnkd.in/dAB3YF2H This study analyses treatment and risk factors for first and second local recurrences (LR1 and LR2) in malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumours (MPNSTs) using a large, multicentre cohort from 1988 to 2019. Findings indicate that high-grade tumours, positive margins and large tumour size increase LR1 risk, mitigated by perioperative radiotherapy. Surgically treated LR1 cases are associated with better overall survival, underscoring the need for tailored management in large, high-grade MPNSTs with R1 resections. 👏👏👏Christianne Jansma, Ibtissam Acem, Dirk Grünhagen, Cornelis Verhoef, Enrico & the MONACO Collaborators

Spectral CT & CAS One & ECT in combination rocks! Dear IR & IntOnc community, I would like to share an interesting case from this week with you. We successfully treated a patient with an extensive retroperitoneal tumour recurrence after tumor nephrectomy (RCC) with the combined image guidance Spectral CT and CAS One and ECT. The images are busy, therefore the system from left to right: better delineation of the vital tumour margin in the spectral reconstruction 55 mono keV compared to standard CT. Clear planning of the subdomains and access trajectories with CAS One IR. The parallelism of the electrodes is well documented in the subsequent ECT. Two days later, we see the desired necrosis in the entire treatment area. Spectral CT & CAS One IR & ECT is not just the ‘new kid on the block’ - it's a gamechanger!
