TikTok is subsidizing the heck out of TikTok Shop, allegedly to the tune of $2B in free media and other incentives. A drop in the bucket when their Chinese sister app does around $200B USD in live stream sales. Users get these coupons frequently, and the brands don’t eat that coupon cost, TikTok does more often than not. Brands that are early to TikTok Shop get to ride the tailwinds as ByteDance aims to 10X topline revenue for this line of business in 2024 (source: Bloomberg). It looks like #YouTube is getting (even more) serious about commerce. A few weeks ago, they launched their new Affiliate Hub, where creators can discover new brands, evaluate offers and commission rates, and learn about upcoming launches so that they can prepare content in advance. Creators can also curate their own Shopping Collections, tag products across their entire video library, and connect their Fourthwall storefront for a fully integrated checkout experience. Last year, I speculated that #TikTok was best positioned to become the go-to media+commerce engine for mid-market brands. At the time, they had the right kind of traction, their e-com technology was still immature but improving, and they were not afraid to outspend just about everyone else. With the recent regulatory concerns, rumors that ByteDance might prefer a US shutdown to a sale, and the growing popularity of Shorts, it looks like the tables might be turning? The main question for me is whether YT can (1) find the right balance between commerce and content and (2) create a shopping experience that lives up to brands' expectations. These are both areas where TikTok has struggled and ended up alienating part of its audience. Other than that, the race is very much still on.

In simple terms: - We share shipping costs with TikTok - Customers get free shipping on orders over $30 If your shop score is 2.5 or higher, you're automatically in. (New sellers too) why I think you should give it a shot: 1. We save on shipping costs 2. Customers love free shipping (more sales) 3. "Free Shipping" labels on your products The kicker?
