How would you define the European growth opportunity? In a conversation with Laura Iriarte, Frederic Huynen sheds a light into Europe’s current growth-stage tech market. From a strong and growing pipeline of capital-efficient, late-stage funding targets to Europe’s maturing ecosystem. Some key drivers in European tech: 📈 Continuous inflow of innovation: Over the past decade, Europe experienced 48% growth in early-stage tech deals, significantly outpacing US’s 17% growth and showing significant momentum. 🛗 Rapid expansion of human capital: Fuelled by experienced founders from unicorn companies, world-class education and Europe’s growing tech workforce, a strong flywheel effect of entrepreneurship is being created in the ecosystem across the value chain. A special thanks to Zero One Hundred Conferences (Connecting LPs & GPs in PE & VC) and Laura for our lively conversation. The full interview is in the comments👇🎧

Meet with the deputy First Minister of Scotland ✅ Another thing to add to the list of amazing things to have came out of 2024, it just doesn't stop! Last week, I was invited down to Edinburgh to meet with the deputy First Minister, Kate Forbes MSP, to talk all things tech entrepreneurship and discuss how international trips are pivotal to growth and ambition in Scotland with Techscaler. We chatted about some of our experiences from our recent trips to Silicon Valley, and our take away from the trips - whether it was pivoting, encouraging ambition or the differences between the UK market and the US. It was a very honest discussion with some other great founders - Kayla-Megan Burns, Matt Jenner, Alex Gordon-Furse & Beena Sharma - and the CodeBase team. For me personally, the trip has totally changed my mindset. Spending time with fellow founders and experiencing the sheer speed, ambition and opportunity within San Francisco and beyond has lead me to pivot and move my goal posts completely. I had one goal going out to SF and that was to immerse myself in the tech and I did that and so, so much more. We need to adopt the US attitude that the market is huge and to encourage risk taking when it comes to business growth. So Kate, please fight our corner for continuing to support entrepreneurship in Scotland, with funding programmes like Techscaler and setting up the connection for international growth and investment. Founders are the ones who take the risks, who try something new with no certainty of success. We need the support and guidance to do the big things we all want for Scotland. #techscaler #scotlandecosystem
Scottish start-ups are gaining experience in two of the world’s most vibrant tech economies. Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes met with business founders who are taking part in programmes in Silicon Valley and Singapore as part of our Techscaler programme.

Yesterday evening Alan Butterworth and Jeffrey Jenner attended an event at Home Grown Club club as part of 'London Tech Week: The Great Tech Debate' on the outlook for M&A in the tech sector. Some of their key takeaways: - After a period where M&A has been on the back burner, activity is starting to pick up and this remains a positive tech centre for innovation and start-up investments. - #AI still a hot topic but there’s a real danger of it being over-hyped despite it having an important role to play in closing the productivity gap. - With the spectre of a general election, no great surprise though that the Government generally doesn’t understand what it takes to innovate and ensure that London remains a global tech hub. Thanks to all the panellists for their contributions: Nataša Williams at Cadro, Matthew Katz at Buzzacott and Dr. Paul Mattick at Mercia Asset Management. #Tech #MandA #LondonTechWeek #LTW24 #Technology #Innovation #London

We attended London Tech Week earlier this week and once again it was great to discuss with various founders and other decision makers about the successes and difficulties they have had to develop, compete and grow their businesses. Despite aiming our delegation to consist of 3 people (Founder, Partner-level consultant and Brand Ambassador) in the end due to an illness and other urgent commitments, I (founder) could only attend however it was more than worthwhile thanks also to our people who were tasked behind the scenes to fill my agenda. As a boutique management consultancy, highly-ranked in a number of consulting areas, we had the opportunity to chat with people from various markets in addition to the UK, for example Austria, Costa Rica, Australia, China and US and from startups to businesses at the next or much further stage of development and are looking to engage with them further to consult or collaborate. It was great to attend various panel conversations about AI and the like in this area and also various other topics about business growth and internationalisation of start-up, the evolution and future of work and driving organisational change, which all are areas we specialise strongly, our consultants are an excellent addition to clients and we exchanged our views across these topics directly with various businesses. Various investors and other panelists emphasized the number of startups that do not make it each year but also the resilience and ambition of founders to create ideas, drive innovation, ease difficulties and deliver change all the way towards finally succeeding which is my strong view also! Innovation is disruptive and we develop strong expertise so we are able to help the businesses who want to work with our consultants how they decide for succeeding. For this particular reason, London Tech Week was a great place to be this week! That doesn’t mean we liked everything so we hope it will be better next year. If you didn’t chat with me at the event and would like to learn about Eupnea, you can message me directly or get in touch with our team. We can discuss what you need to achieve and where we can work for you or together with you. #LondonTechWeek #LTW24

Boston Tech Update: Why the U.S. Is a Magnet for Those Who Crave Freedom and Innovation? Just 10 weeks here, and it's already clear: the U.S. is built for those who want freedom to choose, to move, to build. I’ve seen it firsthand, from Boston to New York, Seattle to Florida. The difference? One language, one market, and a mindset that says go where you want, create what you want. The U.S. isn’t just a country - it’s a powerful network of regions, each with its own edge: - #SiliconValley: still king for startups - #Boston: deep in AI and biotech - #NewYork: media, finance, and tech - #Seattle: the tech giants’ playground - #Denver: tech with a lifestyle focus - #Durham/Raleigh: a growing hub for research and health tech - #Florida: emerging opportunities and warm weather Need a change of pace or a different focus? Just move. No penalties, no borders. It’s all open, making it easy to pivot, follow growth, or find the perfect mix of lifestyle and industry. In Europe, our ambitions are often shaped - and limited - by layers of regulation, fragmented markets, and taxes that weigh down even our best ideas. We’re a collection of mini-ecosystems, each with a little of everything but missing the bold profiles you see here. Imagine a Europe where people could move freely without exit taxes, where unified capital market laws drive major investments, and where flexible labor policies let companies scale at speed. Living here in Boston, I see firsthand how these freedoms fuel innovation and growth every day. If Europe embraced a similar mindset, we’d open doors to new levels of opportunity - not only for investors but for families too.
