Transparency about research integrity helps maintain trust and confidence in UK research. The UK Committee on Research Integrity launched an exploratory project to develop indicators of research integrity for use by Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the UK to build the evidence base for research integrity on a UK-wide scale. These indicators will also support HEIs to self-assess and improve their support for research integrity. What a stellar announcement Australian Technology Network of Universities (ATN Universities) - I have been so impressed by Ant Bagshaw over the last few years in thoughtful but bold thinking, especially in the University Accord (we were on one of the working group together) and his recent book “Higher Imagination: A Future for Universities“. I can’t wait to work with Ant in this new role and the bright future for ATN under his policy leadership. #highereducation #leadership #policy #universities
The deep policy experience Dr Ant Bagshaw brings with him as the new Executive Director of ATN Universities will be crucial as the #UniversitiesAccord implementation rolls out, says ATN Universities Chair and Curtin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Harlene Hayne CNZM. Class Is In Session 📖 It was a real privilege to attend the De Montfort University Inaugural Lecture - Parallel Lines: The Personal in Partition delivered by Pippa Virdee. Pippa's work is deeply personal and unearths the human stories behind waves of migration, displacement, and division. 🤔 In a world increasingly fractured by political, social, and environmental crises, it’s clear that divisive tactics no longer have a place in our collective future. Partition is not just a historical moment, it is a reminder of the consequences when people, communities, and nations are torn apart. 💔 Today, we face mounting global challenges including climate change, inequality, and geopolitical instability, that cannot be solved in silos. This underscores the urgency of coming together, fostering dialogue, and reimagining collaboration across borders. ❤️🩹 One of my favourite subjects in school was history, though it's a shame that as a collective we never seem to learn anything substantial from it. History matters 💯 we just need to get better at connecting the dots… ❣️ DMU Research DMU United Nations Impact Hub #Collaboration #History #GlobalChallenges #Unity #Partition #DMU #InauguralLecture #Study #Education

📢 We're thrilled to unveil the Babraham Research Campus Impact Report 2023/24 that reveals the tangible impact we are delivering across the Campus community, within the Cambridge Cluster and beyond. 🚀The research updates findings from 2019 and demonstrates exceptional growth in economic contributions, job creation, and ground-breaking discoveries. Key findings include: 💥 £3.15bn - the collective valuation of Campus companies 💥 £538m - the annual economic contribution to the local economy (up 89% on 2019) 💥 £1.6bn - the commercial investment in Campus companies collectively to date 💥 9,400 - the number of people employed with 2,000 based on Campus 💥 3.9:1 - every £1 the taxpayer has invested into Campus via UKRI–BBSRC has returned £3.90. It is always stimulating to catch up with the indefatigable Vicki Thomson from Australia's The Group of Eight - who visited Times Higher Education towers with Dr Sally Nimon today. It is quite extraordinary how much the UK and Australian systems have in common - not least that both are facing-up to the awful consequences of ugly, rising anti-immigrant sentiment, with international students treated as pawns in a wider political game. International education is an exceptional success story for both nations - a truly great export to be proud of - and yet both university systems are dealing with a short-sighted clampdown on international students, with dire financial consequences. Another shared challenge is declining public trust in universities - or the "social license to operate" as Vicki put it. Both sectors need to double down on public engagement to promote their extraordinary value to society. I'm pleased to say that both nations excel in THE's Impact Rankings, which provide an evidence base to demonstrate powerful social and economic impact. There is lots to explore at the forthcoming THE World Academic Summit at the The University of Manchester - under the leadership of Duncan Ivison who joins the UK sector directly from Sydney. For the second year running, the University of Auckland has come out on top in Australasia in the Survey of Commercialisation Outcomes from Public Research. ------------------------------------------- The University of Auckland has come out on top in a survey that shows the most active start-up and spinout companies in New Zealand and Australia. The 2023 Survey of Commercialisation Outcomes from Public Research (SCOPR) is its latest survey of research organisations. The survey puts Auckland at number one, ahead of the University of Queensland (UQ) and Australia’s highly respected Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). With 47 active start-ups and spin-outs from 2021-2023, the University of Auckland is well ahead of UQ and CSIRO who both have 33. The University of Auckland also ranked second for new start-ups and spin-outs, with ten. Canterbury University, second-placed in the New Zealand ecosystem, came second with two. It is the second year in a row that the University of Auckland has come out on top in the SCOPR survey. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dawn Freshwater says the success is a resounding endorsement of the University’s strategy to empower its students to build their research skills and use them for the betterment of society... "‘Ending Bad Governance – For Good’ is built on hundreds of members’ testimonies of overpaid and unaccountable university leaders damaging our sector. This important research gives unprecedented insight into what so many of us experience at universities every single day – a broken governance system that needs urgent change. But this doesn’t have to continue." #nteu #endingbadgovernance #australia #universities #academia Register here:

Ever considered taking SPH 566 Special Seminars: Fundamentals of Patient-Oriented Research? This course explores research design principles, concepts, and applications of patient-oriented research. Emphasis is on developing an understanding of research methodologies that bridge the gap between research and practice, and of the theoretical and practical implications of patient-oriented research. This area of research is an emerging trend in health research, and is being impelled by CIHR’s national Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR). Though this is a University of Alberta course, any student in Alberta can take it using the Western Dean's Agreement: https://lnkd.in/gbHFxuMK More information here: https://lnkd.in/gf-fKdB6
