🌟Grateful to be part and contribute to this fantastic initiative of Business Schools for Climate Leadership (BS4CL), where eight of Europe’s leading business schools unite for a global PhD course on organizing the climate transition. Halfway through this transformative journey, and it’s been incredible so far! We’re delving into impactful research approaches dedicated to driving meaningful change in sustainable investing and climate leadership as we navigate the transition. 🌱📈 Increasing the effectiveness of sustainable investing and the pivotal role of investors fascinate me the most, and that’s where my research focus lies. Rigorous and high-quality academic studies can inform practice and give a better understanding of sustainability risks, opportunities, and impacts! One clear realization is that major asset owners, such as public funds, have significant power and long-term perspectives that can catalyze meaningful change within portfolio companies' ESG practices. By leveraging this influence with active ESG investing and stewardship practices, they can contribute to building more resilient environmental, social, and economic systems while mitigating systemic risks overall. Further strategies, such as impact investing or sustainable thematic investments in circular economy transition, also need to accelerate to drive positive change in the face of biodiversity loss and climate change. 🎓 Business Schools for Climate Leadership (BS4CL): INSEAD, Cambridge Judge Business School, IESE Business School, IE Business School, IMD, HEC Paris, Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, and London Business School. 📚 Further contributing faculties: Ivey Business School at Western University, Columbia University, The University of Manchester, University of Michigan, and University of Colorado Boulder - Leeds School of Business. Here's to the next phase of research and collaboration! #ClimateLeadership #BS4CL #PhDProgram #SustainableInvesting

🌊 Should climate scepticism be taught in business schools? Some experts argue that while academic freedom is essential, it does not extend to baseless claims. In the current 'post-truth' era, where misinformation spreads easily, it is crucial to educate future business leaders to assess and debunk falsehoods critically. Thus, business schools should address climate scepticism not as a credible scientific stance but as a study of disinformation, equipping graduates to navigate and counteract these types of fallacies. In the latest issue of Global Focus Magazine, Frank Figge, Professor of Sustainability at ESCP Business School, and Andrea Thorpe, Associate Professor at Católica Porto Business School, explain how business schools can effectively integrate lessons on identifying and countering misinformation into their curricula to better prepare future leaders. 📘 Learn more: ╰┈➤bit.ly/GF-Climate Matthew Wood #EFMDGlobalFocus #climatechange #businessschools

Well that went fast! It's been a whole year since I started my new role as #seniorlecturer at Teesside University International Business School after almost 20 years in the #charity sector. It's been a rollercoaster and doesn't look like it's slowing down anytime soon! I didn't think for a second that I would be asked to take on course leadership of the Senior Leader Apprenticeship #MBA but I have loved it, don't get me wrong, the #impostersyndrome is real but watching senior business leaders debate, challenge and share their extensive knowledge in the classroom is incredible. Just as I found my feet with the MBA, along comes the Sustainability Business Specialist Apprenticeship (integrated MSc Sustainability Leadership). This course is everything I LOVE about business and if you work in the #sustainability space, I would love to talk to you. Next week, I will welcome 25 brand new learners to Teesside University to help to unleash their potential to make a meaningful impact in the world of sustainable business. The course will take us to the Net Zero Industry Innovation Centre, Teesside University London and of course our incredible campus in #middlesbrough. If you'd like to join us, we have intakes in January and May as well as September! Looks like I will be busy for a while, but I can't do it without my network, so if you read something about sustainability, see an event about sustainability or are working in sustainability in any form, please reach out! #esg #netzero #data #globalgoals #sdgs #regulation #ghg #climatechange #supplychain #businessmanagement #innovation #stakeholderengagement #ethics #impact #analysis #responsiblebusiness #responsibleleadership https://lnkd.in/e8iVs2yz

To navigate the overwhelming number of sustainability initiatives available, prioritisation is key to HEIs’ success in sustainability. Universities and other HE institutions should consider the complexity and impact of each initiative when prioritising, focusing on both simple and complex high-impact initiatives while only pursuing low-impact initiatives if they are simple to implement. During DEC Executive Briefing 009, “Measuring Sustainability in Higher Education”, we explored how institutions can make a lasting impact by focusing on four key areas: education, research and innovation, governance and operations, and external leadership. Business Resilience Advisor | Cross-Functional Lead and Stakeholders Management | ESG | Sustainable Solutions
I’m happy to share with you that I’ve completed the Business Sustainability Management program at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL)! Balancing this program with my commitments was challenging yet rewarding. Many evenings and weekends were dedicated to studying whilst also nurturing #UNIQASustainableBusinessSolutions in its early days. There were moments when it felt overwhelming, but topics like #climateaction, #biodiversity, #environmentalrisks, #supplychain and the #circulareconomy drew me in and kept me going. This experience has been more than just learning; it’s been a turning point, bringing a new perspective to my role as a Business Resilience Advisor, helping businesses navigate sustainability with resilience and innovation. While sustainability can present barriers for corporates, I find it crucial to maintain close partnerships, create circular collaboration models, and build communities of expertise to overcome challenges and transform them into opportunities. This is a long journey, and as such, we must be patient, develop gradually, yet with clear, actionable goals. A special thanks to Head of Tutor Louise Nicholls and our true guardian angel Rida Bilgrami for your valuable guidance and practical insights. I am also thankful to my friends and colleagues who stood by me during this demanding time. 😊 Moving forward, I am more committed than ever to helping businesses embrace sustainability, innovate with purpose, and build resilience in an ever-changing world. #Sustainability #BusinessResilience #CircularEconomy #ClimateAction #Biodiversity #SustainableBusiness #CISL #CambridgeUniversity #Leadership
