Collaboration between governments and the private sector is crucial for shaping policies that promote innovation and uphold societal values in the era of AI. At the DEC Global Summit 2024, the discussion “Policies for Growth and Sustainability in the Age of AI” brought attention to how these sectors can work together to drive responsible AI adoption. Panellists explored stimulating experimentation that involves industry, education and government to accelerate AI adoption. They also considered the role for matching solution providers to industry needs - for example, Smart Nation Singapore (TAG) has the AI Trailblazers Initiative in collaboration with Google. #AI #highereducation #DECsummit

Sustainability initiatives in higher education often vary in complexity. During DEC Executive Briefing 009, “Measuring Sustainability in Higher Education,” DEC introduced three categories for classifying initiatives based on their resource intensity and ease of implementation: Quick Wins, Core Builders, and Advanced Undertakings. 1. Quick Wins require minimal resources, are easy to implement, and serve as a catalyst for broader engagement. 2. Core Builders require moderate resources and planning, providing sustained momentum and laying the foundation for more strategic efforts. 3. Advanced Undertakings demand significant resources and extensive preparation, typically pursued after building sufficient capabilities. This classification is essential for higher education institutions to prioritise and plan an effective implementation roadmap. To navigate the overwhelming number of sustainability initiatives available, prioritisation is key to institutional success in sustainability. During DEC Executive Briefing 009, “Measuring Sustainability in Higher Education”, institutions were guided to consider the complexity and impact of each initiative when prioritising, focusing on both simple and complex high-impact initiatives, while only pursuing low-impact initiatives if they are simple to implement.
