GBTA | Global Business Travel Association has teamed up with ClimateScore, to measure the carbon footprint of Convention 2024. Did you know? GBTA is tracking, managing, and reducing as much as possible the environmental footprint related to #GBTAConvention24 this year. Here’s a list of a few things we’ve set up this year: 🗸 Offering shuttle buses to and from select hotels to the Convention Center. 🗸 Eliminating secondary Expo aisle carpet. 🗸 Working with suppliers to reduce material and F&B waste. 🗸 Enhancing the knowledge of our attendees on #sustainability by increasing the sustainability content in the education session and main stage programs. My vision when setting up the #Eventsustainability #supplychain roundtable in the north east was to bring our key industry suppliers together to start discussions around challenges and opportunities we face when making our events more sustainable. The group focuses on how we can collaborate to make the world of events - starting on our home turf - more sustainable and deliver positive impact through our activities. It takes time to make #change. Yesterday was the third roundtable of the year and I think we are making progress as a group and I thank everyone in the group for getting involved. And thanks also to our hosts for our 2024 meetings Crowne Plaza Newcastle - Stephenson Quarter The Glasshouse International Centre for Music and Newcastle City Council. BeaconHouse Events has reduced carbon on our annual events on average by 25% (more on this to follow in our sustainability journey report which we’ll publish at the end of 2024) We discussed ideas on how we can drive more change together, as an events industry in the north east: 🌍 An initiative to tackle food waste and give back to the community 📊 A possible ESG events impact tool to help us target change through our activities, from the outset. ⭐️ Involvement in development of toolkits for the new north east regenerative tourism and events framework to help suppliers digest and understand how to deliver change.
