GBTA | Global Business Travel Association’s Post

GBTA | Global Business Travel Association has teamed up with ClimateScore, to measure the carbon footprint of Convention 2024. Did you know? GBTA is tracking, managing, and reducing as much as possible the environmental footprint related to #GBTAConvention24 this year. Here’s a list of a few things we’ve set up this year: 🗸 Offering shuttle buses to and from select hotels to the Convention Center. 🗸 Eliminating secondary Expo aisle carpet. 🗸 Working with suppliers to reduce material and F&B waste. 🗸 Enhancing the knowledge of our attendees on #sustainability by increasing the sustainability content in the education session and main stage programs. I applaud the sustainability initiatives, truly! However, the amount of food waste that was evident at main stage lunch was quite appalling. I know there were efforts to reduce food waste by tracking and reporting on it through the congress center’s program, Waste Not 2.0 - fabulous! I also learned (through the link provided in this post) that unconsumed food items are picked up and distributed throughout the community - kudos for this, as it is needed now more than ever! BUT - how is this possible when the food has been plated and set out hours before attendees arrived for lunch (I was told food was set out at 9am for the 12pm lunch)? Is it safe to redistribute this food to the community? Is this not a health risk? I'm really curious to learn more about this process and whether I'm missing a key takeaway here.
