Did you know that R-4 insulation is often misunderstood as the ultimate solution for energy efficiency in nonresidential buildings? How often do we equate higher R-values with better insulation, without considering the bigger picture of building energy systems? While R-4 insulation plays a critical role, it's not the sole hero in preventing heat loss and ensuring optimal energy performance. The true power lies in understanding thermal conductivity and heat transfer as part of a comprehensive compliance analysis. When we dive deep into building physics, we recognize that envelope insulation, HVAC systems, and insulation standards must work in harmony for truly effective energy consumption reduction. Energy efficiency is not merely about adding layers; it's about integrating the right materials and systems to enhance thermal resistance and minimize unnecessary energy expenditure. The myth that all we need is thicker insulation limits our approach to sustainable building practices. So, let's challenge the status quo: How can we innovate in our methods to achieve superior energy performance? If this insight resonates with

New from the Building Decarbonization Alliance: Read their latest update for an expanded look at how electrifying residential new construction could impact our grid—and ways to address those challenges.
New report: Grid Implications of Electrifying Residential New Construction—Update | Read it here: https://lnkd.in/g5zrif8A Last fall, we published a discussion paper capturing the utility sector’s perspective on the interplay of electrifying new homes and the electricity grid. Today, we're building on that work with an updated memo incorporating the perspectives of additional key stakeholders, especially developers and builders. Based on new input from 22 residential developers, builders and electricians, we now provide our updated understanding of the challenges with broad-scale electrification of new residential construction, along with actionable recommendations for a variety of stakeholders to guide ongoing efforts to make decarbonized new residential construction the norm.

A good easy to understand summary with a link to simple tables showing how current Part L Regulation compares with the new Future Homes Standard. Clearly shows how Option 2 under the current consultation is not really a step forward. Also includes the impact of connecting new homes to heat networks. Enjoy.
⏰ This Wednesday (27 March) is the deadline for responses to the Government’s Future Homes and Buildings Standards: 2023 consultation, following a three week extension. The extensive collection of consultation documents includes not only updates to the Building Regulations Approved Document Part L, but also to Part O, considering #overheating in dwellings. The consultation offers an invaluable opportunity for stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to shaping the future of #BuildingStandards and #energy efficiency in the #construction industry. We encourage all relevant parties to take advantage of this extension and submit their feedback. Find out more, including a summary of the key proposed option 1 and 2 changes for homes via our website: https://lnkd.in/ejWzqBUQ

Reminder, 2 Days Left, To Display your buildings Energy Efficiency Rating Label! Starting October 1st, owners of our city's largest buildings must obtain and print out their 2024 Letter Grade Signs from the DOB NOW Public Portal. Per New York City law, all buildings over 25,000 square feet – and multiple buildings on a single lot that total at least 100,000 square feet – are required to display these energy grade signs at each public entrance by October 31st. The label includes the 1-100 ENERGY STAR® score and corresponding A-F letter grade to give New Yorkers a snapshot of a building's energy performance compared to similar buildings. These letter grades provide an easy to understand level of transparency on how our city's largest buildings stack up when it comes to energy efficiency. Failure to post the label within 30 days after October 1st will be subject to a civil penalty of $1,250.00. "Let's Be Compliant Together" #compliance #buildings #energy #locallaw

Between the New Build Heat Standard, the proposed Heat in Buildings Bill and the developing Passivhaus standard, energy efficiency is a top priority for specifiers in Scotland. Switching from polluting heating systems to low carbon alternatives is key to meeting these standards. Choosing the right hot water system to complement a heat pump or heat network connection can have a big impact on overall environmental performance. Thermino heat batteries are a tried and tested option for any net zero home. Their compact size makes it possible to fit a heat pump even if there isn't room for a hot water cylinder, while lower heat losses help boost the system's efficiency. Check out our guide to building standards in Scotland here: https://lnkd.in/ekrzBBPJ Get in touch to discuss your project: https://lnkd.in/dD7zMHwx
