Save the Date: November 26 & 27, 2025 Last April, the first National Building Decarbonization Forum brought together nearly 250 attendees from across Canada's building sector for two days of knowledge-sharing, connection, and in-depth discussion on how to make real progress towards our decarbonization goals. And one year from today, we're doing it again. On November 26 & 27, 2025, we'll be back at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, and we'd love for you to join us. Space will be limited, and judging from the response to the first Forum, we're planning for another sold out event. To make sure you don't miss out, fill out the form below and you'll be among the first to know when tickets go on sale: https://lnkd.in/g9NKxeaR

New report: Grid Implications of Electrifying Residential New Construction—Update | Read it here: https://lnkd.in/g5zrif8A Last fall, we published a discussion paper capturing the utility sector’s perspective on the interplay of electrifying new homes and the electricity grid. Today, we're building on that work with an updated memo incorporating the perspectives of additional key stakeholders, especially developers and builders. Based on new input from 22 residential developers, builders and electricians, we now provide our updated understanding of the challenges with broad-scale electrification of new residential construction, along with actionable recommendations for a variety of stakeholders to guide ongoing efforts to make decarbonized new residential construction the norm.

Decarbonizing Canada’s buildings in time to meet our 2050 obligations will call on us to use every credible tool in our arsenal. We believe Thermal Energy Networks (TENs) are a promising complement to other building-by-building decarbonization tools—and it's time to figure out how to unlock their potential. Bryan Flannigan had the chance to announce our first TENs initiative at this week's Vancouver Thermal Network Study Tour. Supported by The Atmospheric Fund (TAF), City of Toronto, City of Edmonton and BC Hydro, this project aims to pin down the economic opportunities associated with TENs, help decision and policy-makers understand their broad potential to help accelerate building decarbonization, and ultimately support the use of TENs as a complement to our other decarbonization tools. Thanks to Zero Emissions Innovation Centre, Building Decarbonization Coalition, and Reshape Infrastructure Strategies for putting together a fantastic event this week—and a special thanks to BDC for making the trip out to Vancouver. Learn more about TENs and the work we're planning over on our website: https://lnkd.in/gD-nv-rF

The Building Decarbonization Alliance recently published a jurisdictional scan of policies related to building heating decarbonization and electrification in Canada. While great progress has been made--especially with BC, Quebec and Nova Scotia leading the way with both provincial and municipal efforts to mandate decarbonization--we need more regulations across Canada at all levels of government in order to accelerate the transition to a net-zero economy. Our very own Erin Ellis sits on the BDA's Expert Advisory Panel, helping to advance this much-needed acceleration. Building deep retrofit programs are a win-win method of achieving heating decarbonization goals, while also providing benefits through ventilation, lighting, insulation and more. By integrating renewable or low-carbon energy sources and upgrading old or inefficient equipment, retrofit programs create a comprehensive approach to improving energy performance and reducing emissions. All provinces and municipalities should be introducing policies that encourage these programs at scale as a way to create brighter, healthier communities across Canada. https://lnkd.in/eHkD36vi #energyefficiency #buildingretrofits #energysolutions #decarbonization
