I recently had the opportunity to experience The Gunpowder Plot, one of London’s most imaginative immersive experiences. Created by Layered Reality, the same company that brought us Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds immersive experience. I am always impressed with the brilliant way they blend fully immersive enviornments, live performance, and technology into one seamless story driven experience. What truly sets Layered Reality apart is their commitment to making story and human connection the foundation of the experience. The technology, while state-of-the-art, plays a supporting role, enhancing the narrative without ever overshadowing it. I got into theatre, arts, culture, whatever you want to call it, because I wanted to make people feel something. I wanted to help enable the rare but, sometimes amazing, moments where you get the shivers down the spine, the hairs standing up on end.” In this talk, Sophie Larsmon FRSA, a creative producer and director of live immersive experiences, presents her work on how data and diagramming tools help create and structure immersive experiences. Talking about her previous work, particularly her collaborations with immersive experience production company Any One Thing, Sophie shares some insights into how she looks to create meaning in her experiences, going beyond mere spectacle to leave audiences personally moved and changed.
