Brianna Doe’s Post

Today is Juneteenth. And while there has been some progress, and I love seeing more companies and leaders publicly recognize this day, the uncomfortable truth is that this was only 159 years ago. And there is a lot of work to be done. If you’re not sure where to start, here are some ideas: • Support Black-owned businesses • Educate yourself, your families, and your team about Juneteenth and Black history (rather than placing that labor on the shoulders of your Black colleagues, friends, and neighbors) • Advocate for diverse panels, speaking engagements, and events. And then pay your speakers (or offer a fair trade). Yes, even the Black speakers. Giving your employees the day off is great. Understanding this day’s history, traditions, and impact is even better. Anyway, if you need me, I’ll be celebrating one of my favorite holidays and building my company. 👋🏽

As a Nigerian, I hear a lot about the conc. racism in the States and how blacks are treated differently. It makes me rethink wanting to go there. It is well, there's really still more work to be done.

Amazing reminder Brianna Doe I am in the middle of listening an incredible podcast about the history of slavery. Highly recommend. Pls note this is just one episode about Olaudah Equiano, there are many more. https://open.spotify.com/episode/6ArWy3mb2Odq5jBNzyFKf6?si=ccYhw_QWSFaJKBrTxy3Nwg

Agreed, Brianna. It feels icky to me for a company to give all of their employees a day off without contributing to a more inclusive and equitable workplace and world. If you accept Dr. MLK Day and Juneteenth off, you shouldn't be driving your black employees out of the company at the same time or encouraging them to "slave" away!

I could definitely use some more support for my emotional intelligence training business. It’s really good!

Thank you for sharing this. I completely agree—there's definitely been progress, but we still have a long way to go. Supporting Black-owned businesses, educating ourselves and others, and advocating for diversity are all crucial steps. It's so important that we take the time to truly understand and honor the significance of Juneteenth. Enjoy and keep striving for greatness.

Absolutely love this. There's so many ways one can support. I know here, I plan to support more Black Made Indie Games ❤️ So happy to see others beginning to give Juneteenth the respect and attention it deserves.

The day commemorates the end of slavery in the state of Texas, two and a half years after Abe Lincoln’s 1863 emancipation proclamation to end slavery. Thank you for your post and celebration!

Happy Juneteenth fam! Love to hear how you’re spending it 👌🏽
