As we approach COP29, the urgency for robust frameworks and coordinated action on climate adaptation has never been greater. With escalating climate impacts, we must prioritize key processes like the UAE-Belem Work Programme, National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), and their alignment with Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs). 🌱 According to the International Climate Coalition, these frameworks are crucial for ensuring effective climate resilience and adaptation while allocating necessary public finance. Let’s emphasize the importance of inclusive approaches that support the most vulnerable communities! 💪💰 #ClimateChange #InternationaleKlimaatcoalitie #COP29 #UNFCCC #Adaptation

🌍 We Stand for Nature at COP29! As the world faces escalating climate challenges, it's crucial that biodiversity and ecosystem integrity remain central to climate action. There are concerns that nature may not feature prominently in the COP29 agenda, hindering progress when we need to be setting the stage for a strong, nature-focused COP in Brazil in 2025. Biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation are critical components in tackling the climate crisis—from mitigation to adaptation—and ignoring nature risks undermining efforts for effective climate action and global collaboration. Thus, we have proudly joined over 90 organisations in signing a letter urging the COP29 Presidency to elevate the importance of nature in the upcoming climate negotiations. 🌳Let's ensure that nature stays at the forefront! 📄 Read the full letter here: https://lnkd.in/dYjey9Vk #InnerDevelopmentGoals #IDGs #ClimateAction #COP29 #NatureMatters

Understanding Climate Action Frameworks This presentation provides a comprehensive overview of key climate governance mechanisms under the UNFCCC, such as COP, CMA, CMP, and the Biodiversity COP. It highlights how these platforms contribute to addressing global climate challenges by fostering collaboration, setting ambitious goals, and driving accountability. Key takeaways include: ✅ The roles and responsibilities of each platform in advancing international climate agreements like the Paris Agreement and Kyoto Protocol. ✅ A focus on understanding actionable steps for achieving a sustainable future through mechanisms like NDCs, IPCC reports, and SDGs. Let’s continue building awareness and dialogue around these frameworks as we work together to combat the climate crisis. 💡 How do you think these mechanisms can be further strengthened for greater impact? Let's discuss this in the comments below! #LetsTalkSoltuions #COP29 #ClimateGovernance #Sustainability #GlobalAction #ClimateFinance

The Bonn Climate Change Conference concluded after two weeks of intensive deliberations, setting the stage for the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29 Azerbaijan) in Baku this November. Despite progress in key areas, including climate finance, adaptation, international carbon markets, and transparency, challenges remain daunting. Looking forward, preparations intensify with upcoming events including technical dialogues and high-level ministerial engagements aimed at solidifying outcomes for COP29 Azerbaijan. The momentum built in Bonn underscores the urgency and complexity of achieving ambitious global climate goals, underscoring the need for concerted efforts leading up to the pivotal conference in Baku. #climatechange #environment #climatepolicy #biodiversity #planet #adaptation #mitigation

𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐎𝐏𝟐𝟖 The One Pacific are this week reviewing the outcomes of the world’s largest climate change negotiations platform and preparing for the next steps on the 2024 journey through the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) negotiations. The UNFCCC’s 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates last year was the biggest of its kind, with more than 80,000 participants in attendance, including 150 Heads of State and Government. For the Pacific it was one of the many steps on their voyage for survival in the face of climate change impacts. This week the Pacific Small Island Developing States (PSIDS) Post-COP28 Analysis Workshop is underway, led by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), in collaboration with members of the Council of Regional Organisations of the Pacific and Climate Analytics. Climate Diplomacy and Leadership Research: a quick update on ongoing research on Pacific states and peoples in climate negotiations. In the many meetings last week (and the reason why I uploaded so many COP28 photos on Facebook) part of a bigger One CROP team busy compiling reports and presentations for Pacific or PSIDS post COP28 analysis. Multitasking multiple meetings (including Pacific Gender regional workshops on CSW and UNFCCC) and start of semester one classes in ANU (all at the same time). From this meeting our work Pacific agenda for climate negotiations and priorities supporting Pacific countries are set for the rest of the year. Grateful for SPREP for the opportunity to allow our research contribute to the work One CROP Plus and PSIDS, Pacific Climate Champions and especially our Gender and Social Inclusion negotiators. Moreover to continue to follow and support Samoa and leadership in AOSIS l. (this is only stream of many ongoing policy research working on this year, that includes Australia Pacific COP31, Oceania Diplomacy, SIDS Global Agenda- Antigua Barbuda, Climate Security, Regionalism Security and Geopolitics, Pacific Philosophy, and many more) And so the road to Baku COP29 begins. It’s an important year for Finance and Gender. Will try best to leave updates here. Le Atua tautai oe.
