The Magical Number 7 & UX Based on George Miller’s discovery, people can generally hold around seven chunks (meaningful items) of information in short-term memory, but this principle is often misapplied in UX design. The magical number seven should not dictate the number of items in menu bars, pull-down menus, bullet points on slides, or rating scales.
