Here's the rule – if two businesses with the same category are too close, one might get filtered out for certain searches. The 200-foot rule is followed, but it's important to know that the filter considers the entire market, not just the immediate area. So, your location as a searcher affects how the local filter works. Imagine you're searching for something on Google, like personal injury lawyers. Google uses a filter, called the local filter, to organize and show the most relevant results. This filter has been around for a while, but it became more noticeable in 2016 with an update called Possum. The local filter works a bit like an organic filter, filtering out things it thinks are too similar or duplicates. One thing it looks at is the address and how close businesses are to each other. For example, if a bunch of personal injury lawyers use the same virtual office address (Regus), the filter may kick in. Now, here's the interesting part. The filter can either completely remove a listing or just push it lower in the search results. If your business is too similar to another one that's ranking higher, the filter might make your listing rank lower to diversify the search results. This happens a lot with lawyer listings. In one case, a lawyer's listing dropped from the first position to the sixth because it was filtered by another attorney in the same building. But later, when the filtered lawyer's listing was removed, the first lawyer's listing went back to the top position because it became more relevant. #googlefilter #googlebusinessprofile #200ft #localseo #seo

During a recent client meeting, I had a wake-up call. As I rambled on about the importance of being everywhere, I noticed their eyes start to get heavy. That's when I heard my Father's voice in my head saying, 'Make it simple, stupid.' And he was right. A simple Google search revealed that the largest search engine in the world believes that in today's technology-driven world, more potential clients are turning to Google search to find legal services. According to Google, people find lawyers in the organic search results, the only place they don't get directly paid for. This means that optimizing and updating your website with new content is crucial. It enables law firms to maximize their online visibility, attract qualified leads, and ultimately grow their business. If the biggest search engine in the world is telling you that your firm's website is the most important thing, why do so many firms think their website isn't important? Is your firm appearing in the organic results? Reach out with questions. #thomsonreuters #Findlaw #websiteseo #websites #lawfirms #lawyers

A 2023 Martindale study revealed that on top of long hours and difficult clients... The number one thing that law firms struggle with is consistently generating high quality new case leads. This matches up with our experience working with firms over the past decade. The reason for this is that there is a huge misunderstanding about how & where you should be spending your hard earned money. We see this constantly & it also matches up with the data on what law firms are currently investing in. Way way too much money is going into billboards, radio spots, print ads, social media, sponsorships, PR, email marketing & other "direct response" strategies that not only are super pricey... but, also don't work well. When I say "don't work" I do not mean it's not possible to get clients using these strategies. It's possible to get clients using all of them. BUT- the vast majority of firms that deploy these campaigns do not get what they're looking for in terms of consistent case loads & return on their marketing spend. This is why a recent survey of 1,000 firms found that 88% are unhappy with their current marketing results. They're simply spending in the wrong places. 80%-90% of high quality new case leads are going to come from search first platforms. It's just that simple. Now, you might be saying, "well, I've tried investing in Google and it didn't work." If that's the case you worked with the wrong team and/or deployed the wrong strategies. Google search has many products & over the past 12+ months Google has completely changed how they display their search results to users looking for law firms. Things that worked two years ago can get zero results currently. You have to work with a team that only specializes in generating high quality case leads through Google search. Most of the agencies simply don't know how to do this properly. If you want to grow your firm, bring in a consistent number of high quality case leads every month & take market share from your local competition... You have to figure out Google. It's that simple. There is no debate. Figure it out and get everything you want. Don't figure it out and you'll never get what you're looking for. That's the truth.

Today in #QuickMarketingWins, a new way small and solo firms can gain more qualified leads (more effectively!)... Google's recently made its excellent local business offering - Google Local Services Ads (LSAs) - available to London-based firms. You're probably thinking, "Google Ads? Seen it. Tried it," but Google LSAs for lawyers ≠ Google Ads for lawyers. They're newer, different and, in many ways, better. Why? ⭐ LSAs appear at the very top of Google’s search results page - Ie. before standard Google Ads, before Google maps, and before organic search results. ⭐ Firm's pay only for leads, not clicks - Unlike Google Ads, LSAs will only charge you for each call or message they generate (instead of charging you every time someone simply clicks on your ad). ⭐ LSAs are much easier to set-up and manage than classic Google Ads - There’s really no reason a small firm could not initiate and run LSAs on its own. We've just written a detailed article all about the ins-and-outs of LSAs for law firms. 🔍Check it out here: https://buff.ly/3P5ZP5t #DigitalMarketingTips #LegalMarketing #RatioDigitalMarketingStudio #SmallLawFirmMarketing
