Thank you, MassEcon, for celebrating #BioversityMA and our incredible 2024 graduates! 👏 We're proud to have completed five cohorts this year, and it's a privilege to be recognized as a 2024 #MassEconAwards honoree.
Chair of Chronobiology at the University of Edinburgh
Director of the Graduate School in Biological Sciences
Director of the BBSRC EastBio Doctoral Landscape Award
Delighted to announce continuation of the EastBio partnership for a further 5 cohorts, funded by BBSRC. Across Scotland, we will be training 190 PhD students to drive frontline research and address industrial and societal challenges, in an empowering and inclusive research culture. On a personal note, to receive this funding is the biggest relief of my career to date.

Bioversity opened our doors on January 8th, 2024. Four months later, we are in week two of our 3rd training cohort. 31 graduates and 12 new students later...
Our original mission was speed and scale. How quickly can we train underrepresented populations and get them employed? And, how many cohorts can we run in a year? So far, we are meeting and exceeding every metric we set for ourselves.
- 650 applicants and counting
- 96% of enrolled students are Black and/or Latino
- 76% of students live in Boston neighborhoods
And my favorite data point? The average pre-enrollment income of our students is $28,000 and soars to $56,000+ after job placement.
Our graduates are landing full-time employment in roles like Lab Support Technician, Logistics Technician, Manufacturing Associate, Molecular Technician Associate, Senior Site Specialist, and more, at top companies.
There is so much more to do. But there must be small moments to reflect and take pride in what we've done.
Welcome the third cohort of the year at Bioversity! After a busy first week, we are excited to equip our students with the knowledge and skills they will need to excel in their future endeavors for early career scientific operations roles. Let's continue to thrive and grow together in this journey of learning and professional development!

In 1998 the The Babraham Institute launched the Babraham Bioincubator to support early-stage life science companies. 25 years later it is incredible to read about the economic Impact of what has become the Babraham Research Campus. The Campus is now rightly recognised as a leading European hub for research and innovation. There are several factors that place the Campus in a league of its own, from the bespoke provision of support at every stage of a company's growth, to the cross-pollination of ideas and the technical capabilities provided by the Institute's world-class academics and facilities. We're proud to be a core contributor to what makes the Campus such a unique and fruitful environment and look forward to continuing to work very closely with Babraham Research Campus Ltd and our campus community to support innovative life science research that will improve lives.

I had the opportunity to talk about my experience in the TLST Program at UMBC and how it aligns with my work at ATCC as a SPARC Intern. Check out the article!
The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) County recently highlighted how it’s uniquely situated within the country’s third largest biotech hub where the demand for highly skilled workers continues to grow. Through UMBC’s Transitional Life Sciences Technology (TLST) program, students have the opportunity to engage in valuable learning and prepare for their careers in biotech.
We are proud to support UMBC’s TLST students through our Student Partnership and Research Collaboration (SPARC) program. Our General Manager & Senior Vice President Ruth R Cheng, PhD, sees the clear benefits of the TLST program and said, “The hands-on lab training provided by the TLST program has prepared students for impactful careers at ATCC.”

One of our very exciting and productive programs is the NCBW(BETA) Biosciences Industry Fellows Program for community college or high school instructors where you spend 6-8 weeks in industry or an institute working, learning more about an aspect of Bioscience. Eg. Regenerative medicine or Sustainable alternative proteins. Thanks to InnovATEBIO( NSF ATE), PTRME (NSF Engine) and The Bezos Center for Sustainable Protein at NC State, we have limited opportunities for summer 2025. If you are an instructor and based in the US with the time to spend with us next summer, please contact me at: [email protected] for more detail.
