"I hate my job" Have you ever said that? As an entrepreneur and agency owner of 8 staff across Asia, I've always believed this. Work drives your life. Not the other way round. ❌ Your life energies shouldn't be spent entirely driving your 9-5. Leaving you burnt out, miserable and resentful. Idealistic? This is what I've done as a business owner: → Set clear-cut off rules for my staff - no work messages or emails during the weekends or weekdays after 6.30pm, unless requiring urgent attention → Take your family out for a meal - we provide a monthly staff incentive budget to take their family and loved ones for a good meal → Autonomy to work anywhere - we operate entirely on output and you can work off a beach or ship, so long you remain contactable Why do I do all these? ✅ More engaged people = high performance - we've seen our productivity levels increase by 20+ % in the recent months ✅ Output >>> Face-time - when people get good quality work done, it's what matters most. Not fake loyalty or show-face politics Expectation Effect works when you assume the best of your people and likewise, on the converse. Of course, set up clear reporting lines & systems. ✅ Loyalty is earned through goodwill - I hired my team from the start of the pandemic and they've stayed with me since. Because I've trusted and invested in them, they have done so too. ✅ “You don’t build a business. You build people, and people build the business.” -Zig Ziglar And my guiding mantra as a business owner. -- I love my job and business. Only because it's designed to give what I want most from my work and life since a decade ago when I quit my first job to start my own. Likewise, I want my people to love their work enough too. And more so, be able to love their life and the people who matter. I love this Benjamin Loh, CSP and i totally agree. Just cos we love our work doesn't mean it has to consume us, and we can put our lifestyle first, and fit the work in it. That way it doesn't feel as draining, and in fact, can allow us to achieve the kind of life we want.
