Incredible detail in this Canary Media Inc. piece about BrightNight landing a $440M strategic investment from Goldman Sachs: BrightNight's three planned projects in Kentucky will "boost the amount of solar currently installed in Kentucky by more than sixfold." This includes the Starfire project, which is turning the state's second-largest coal mine into its largest renewable energy project, with a billion-dollar infrastructure investment. BrightNight is bringing the energy transition to energy communities in ways that very few companies are. One of many reasons why MUUS Climate Partners is excited about being an investor. https://lnkd.in/etM7UEx3

Petra Diamonds' recent signing of long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Etana Energy to secure wheeled renewable energy for its Cullinan and Finsch mines marks a significant step towards achieving its environmental targets. By leveraging Etana's clean energy, primarily sourced from new large-scale wind projects, Petra aims to reduce its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 35% to 40% from its 2019 levels, well ahead of its 2030 goal. This shift not only supports Petra's commitment to environmental sustainability but also enhances the traceability and provenance of its diamonds, further distinguishing its products in the market. In scenarios like this, Soil Solutions could provide intelligent solutions tailored to mining and renewable energy sectors. By integrating our expertise in environmental management and innovative technology, we can offer sustainable practices that complement Petra’s efforts in reducing its carbon footprint. Our approach could assist in mitigating the environmental impact of mining operations while promoting the use of renewable resources, thereby contributing to the broader goal of sustainable development in the industry. Best invest in Building and talking about Fusion power, space, maritime propulsion systems and industry as data centres are. Great Headline, Guardian on Nuclear fission. https://lnkd.in/g8sMZtpR People talk about Nuclear (meaning Fission) and fail to discuss fusion. https://lnkd.in/ge_aeX7M The nuclear fission industry is ignorant of what's happening around it. It must pull its collective uranium heads out of the sand and prepare to enter the commercially growing fusion energy industry. Fission is moving towards obsolescence at an ever-increasing pace, as it is "out of step, out of time, out of place, and soon to be out of Fuel" and merely temporary. https://lnkd.in/gbd_mZqk By 2028, Helion is expected to start producing electricity from its first fusion commercial power plant, which will provide electricity to Microsoft. The plant will produce at least 50 MWe after an initial ramp-up period. https://lnkd.in/gY9J3MQY Now, see what is happening in the world of the fusion industry. https://lnkd.in/g9hMBD7a As fission trebles, fuel shortage is increasingly real, https://lnkd.in/gze5rwpr

LDES Cap & Floor Scheme announced The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has announced a cap and floor scheme to support investment in long duration energy storage (https://lnkd.in/esuvUqU2). Such a mechanism was proposed in a consultation published in January and which closed in March, and it is not a surprise that this has been adopted as the way forward. Ofgem will act as the regulator and delivery body, and will design the investment scheme. DESNZ's full response to the consultation is yet to be published, but the scheme will have two application routes, one focussing on mature technologies, the other dedicated to new innovation. There is a pipeline of 3.7GW of pumped storage projects (at April 2024) including Drax Group's Cruachan II, SSE Renewables' (SSE plc) Coire Glas, Statkraft's Loch na Cathrach, Statera Energy's Loch Ness/Loch Kemp, Buccleuch's Glenmucklock, and Snowdownia Pumped Hydro's Glyn Rhonwy projects. Today's announcement is positive for each of these, and other technologies that might be brought forward. #LDES #pumpedstorage #flexibility #netzero

Ingka Investments has acquired a 15% stake in Stage 2 of the 1,333 MW Golden Plains Wind Farm in Victoria, Australia, marking the company’s second investment in the €2.5 billion project. “Our 15% stake in Golden Plains Wind Farm Stage 2 highlights our dedication to securing renewable energy for IKEA retail countries and advancing sustainability goals,” said Frederik de Jong, Ingka Investments Head of Renewable Energy. “This move comes as we are accelerating our investments in renewable energy and circularity to support Ingka Group’s net-zero science-based targets and commitment to reach net-zero by 2050.” Ingka’s also acquired a 15% stake in Stage 1 of the Golden Plains Wind Farm in 2023, which represented its first major utility-scale renewable energy investment in Australia at the time. Stage 1 of the project features a capacity of 756 MW and has already started generating electricity, enough to power 765,000 homes, following 20 months of construction. The wind farm consists of 215 turbines, each standing 149 metres tall with 79-metre blades. The 577 MW Stage 2 of the Golden Plains Wind Farm is slated for completion in mid 2027. Similar to Stage 1, Ingka Investments will be able to claim up to 15 percent of Stage 2’s electricity output. Mirja Viinanen, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer of IKEA Australia, noted: “We believe the future of energy is renewable, and Australia has such rich potential to harness these sources, especially wind and solar. This investment from Ingka Investments will not only help reduce our local footprint but also contributes to further growth in the Australian renewable energy sector.” Franck Woitiez, CEO of TagEnergy, which is Ingka’s partner on the project, added: “We are proud to continue our partnership with Ingka Investments – a likeminded partner that shares our belief in sustainable investments with purpose and taking meaningful action to help the world reach net zero carbon emissions sooner.” #cleanenergy
