It is an honor to win the highly coveted 2023 Underwater Photographer of the Year (UPY) contest in the Wreck category. The winning image is of a rare F8F-1 Bearcat that crashed deep off the coast of Pt Loma, California. I was the first (and only) diver to see the wreck back in June 2022 and then I took a buddy, Drew Wilson at the end of 2022 to take more photos to complete the model. The model consists of more than 750 photos. In the words of one of the judges of the contest "Brett's image also reveals how eye catching these images (photogrammetry) can be, rewriting the rules of wreck photography underwater...." More information about the wreck and my model is on my website at: https://lnkd.in/gAgv9WG4 Information about the UPY contest and all of the other winners can be found at: https://lnkd.in/gW7Pfg3c A big thanks to my wife, my dive & research partner Tyler Stalter, Lora & Chris at Marissa Charters, and Drew Wilson. This was a team effort. Congratulations to all of the other winners. It is truly amazing to be included amongst all of the fantastic images.
