When hiring into early career roles - are you looking for the 'best'? We sure do at Capgemini and no doubt we all do. However we need to be very careful on how we interpret and apply the notion of 'best'. As humans, as businesses, I've noticed in the past how quick we are to disregard people. You're in. You're out. So quick to judge what good looks like. Universities. Grades. Accolades. Communication skills. Sure, great markers. But if we don't think deeply and challenge ourselves, we stand there dismissing whole people - humans - who don't look like us, who don't sound like us, who don't look like they'll fit in. We dismiss the shy, the introverts, the nervous. We dismiss the neurodiverse, the culturally diverse, those who don't see any cues of belonging. We dismiss those who haven't had the unearned advantage of rubbing shoulders with corporate types. We dismiss those without tertiary qualifications. THOSE. Those are the people we need to give a chance to. Redefine who you are looking for by understanding who is not in your meeting rooms. Look for culture add. Not culture fit. Diversity of thought is required for high performing teams, business transformation, and progress. It's not just buzzy words I'm spinning here. If we want to progress - we need to include and expand our teams to expand our success. Our unity comes from our diversity. Make sure your teams, your culture, your processes, your operating models, and your leadership is top tier so that ANYONE can thrive working with you. Refine yourself first. 5 Things I did to land a job at Bain & Company... I always get asked, “How do you bag a consulting offer at the MBB?” There are plenty of guides on consulting prep out there, but not enough simple, actionable steps to actually follow. Here’s what worked for me: ▶️Practice Guesstimates and Case Interviews daily: These are the core components of Bain’s campus recruitment process. I relied on IIM handbooks and online resources to kick-start my preparation. ▶️Shifted from passive to active practice: Initially, I struggled because I practiced alone with PDFs. What changed? Practicing with peers. It refined my delivery, structure, and frameworks, making my answers sharper and more calculation-focused. ▶️One-on-One practice with peers: Partnering with someone allowed me to simulate real interview scenarios. This improved my clarity, confidence, and ability to justify frameworks effectively. ▶️Sought feedback from seniors and alumni: Experienced folks gave me valuable insights on my problem-solving and communication. They helped me focus on weak areas like calculation speed and justifications. Interestingly, I failed my first guesstimates attempt, it was tough. But it taught me that delivery matters as much as the thought process. Adjusting my approach with concise explanations made all the difference. 𝘉𝘶𝘥𝘥𝘺 𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵: You get 1-2 alums as buddies to help with the process 3. 𝘉𝘶𝘥𝘥𝘺 𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘴 - Interaction with buddies to learn about the company, process, and practice case-solving. 4. 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘭 𝘋𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘳 - Interaction with senior people/partners 5. 𝘐𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘭 𝘋𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘳 - Interaction with junior/non-manager level people 6. 𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘍𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 & 𝘔𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 - Firms submit preference order of candidates and candidates of firms for interviews. 7. 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘸 - Typically 2-3 rounds with partner and above-level people. I was wondering about how many more applications I was going to come back too ( I get really excited at this part of the process!! ) it reminded me of when I applied to Accenture all those years ago and I thought about how nervous I was through the interview process, but here I am 10 years plus with a successful career. Nerves are good though, they demonstrate enthusiasm and drive, so don't be afraid to be nervous.
