student's training. The problem identified is the gap between the knowledge/skills students gain during their higher education and the expectations of recruiting organisations which prioritize experienced candidates with updated technological expertise. While internships are mandated by the government and educational institutions to provide practical experience, the internships often do not offer detailed and comprehensive exposure to all aspects of the field particularly procurement cycle, warehouse management, transport logistics where offices may not cover all subsectors probably due to organization specific industry, busy schedules and confidentiality. This gap limits students’ hands-on experience, exposure and hinders their ability to compete for job opportunities that require one of the specific subsector expertise. It’s on these basis above that DESIMA logistics finds it essential to bridge the gap of experience by providing hands-on office practice in procurement cycle, warehouse management, transport logistics, general operations, enlighten students of which opportunities they can peruse, strategic cover letters, professional resume and interview tips. #studentsexternship.

I am pleased to announce the completion of my 4-week internship at Siemens in the SI EA department with the Materials Management team. I chose this internship to deepen my understanding of materials management and SAP software, as well as to learn about efficient global supply chain management. My goals also included developing practical procurement skills and enhancing my ability to work with cross-functional teams for a future career in industrial management. During this internship, my major learning outcomes were: 1) Gained hands-on experience with SAP software, focusing on material code generation, PR and PO processes, and Material Resource Planning (MRP). 2) Acquired a comprehensive understanding of Siemens' Materials Management processes, including subcontracting, Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI), and risk management. 3) Learned the process of creating and managing Purchase Orders (POs) in SAP, including supplier management, incoterms, and approval processes. 4) Explored key strategies like Make to Order (MTO), Made to Stock (MTS), and Material Planning Strategies (PD, V1, ND) to optimize inventory and production. 5) Participated in weekly team meetings and factory/store visits, providing real-world insights into materials handling and the decision-making process within the department. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Mr. Muhammad Mohsin Abbasi, Manager of the Materials Management team. His willingness to share his expertise was instrumental in making my experience both educational and fulfilling. I greatly appreciate Mr. Daniyal Jamil's guidance and support throughout the internship. His invaluable expertise in material planning, Incoterms, VMI, and NCR, significantly enhanced my understanding of these critical concepts. I would also like to appreciate and acknowledge the support and assistance of Mr. Daniyal Ali, who played a pivotal role as the Material Master in the team, and Mr. Osaid Iftekhar, who plays the role of buyer in the team, for their assistance and openness, which made my learning experience insightful. Sincere thanks to Mr. Raza Zaidi for providing invaluable insights into the Order Execution System, emphasizing clear communication, tracking, and risk mitigation strategies. Lastly, Mr. Tayyab Abrar's guidance on the Receiving Inspection process, a key aspect of industrial engineering and its role in upholding quality standards was highly insightful. To conclude, my internship at Siemens Pakistan was an enriching experience that solidified my foundational knowledge in materials management and introduced me to the complexities of managing a global supply chain. The lessons learned and skills acquired during this internship will undoubtedly serve as valuable assets as I continue to pursue my career in the field of engineering and industrial management. #Siemens #Internship #MaterialManagement #SAPMM #SupplyChainManagement #Automation #DigitalTransformation #OperationalExcellence #CareerGrowth #SAP
