Finally we had our Nairobi Regional members Forum. Members showed up in numbers and we had a good time and great engagements. This was our final regional meeting for 2024. It has been a great success.

We are honored to have been a part of the evening with Kenya’s President Ruto and key U.S. Officials in Atlanta, hosted by Prosper Africa and Ambassador Meg Whitman. The discussions focused on investment in Kenya and Africa as a whole, among other talking points. Key points from President William Ruto’s keynote 🚀 $150M investment deal with Coca-Cola signed 🚀 A billion-dollar data center is set to be established in Kenya courtesy of an agreement with Microsoft and G42 🚀 The creative industry currently accounts for 5% of Kenya’s GDP ( versus 10% – tourism). Huge investments have been lined up to increase the creative industry’s share of Kenya’s GDP and drive youth employment (for instance, 10 US films are set to be filmed in Kenya) 🚀 The removal of the 30% local shareholding requirement in Kenya’s ICT sector to promote ICT investment in the country 🚀 Tax predictability for businesses for 5 years 🚀 The first 100k electric vehicles will be exempted from tax to promote environmental sustainability Catch the event: https://lnkd.in/daAhF6ea

Have come to appreciate the critical role the Governance plays in the health sector; decisions that seem obvious to the public eye, fundamentally have three aspects for considertion: 1. Value system 2. Context 3. Power Dynamics I look forward to this engagement next week as demystify #Governance for #Health #Services

Source: Posted on X: Ambassador Rhoda J Elmi (@AmbRhodaJElmi) Just wanted to clarify a few things here: 1. Mogadishu leaders continually claim that the recent December meeting in Djibouti between them and the #Somaliland President Muse Biihi ended well. This is untrue! The meeting was contentious, and the only agreement reached was to issue a harmless communiqué recycled from previous meetings, done at the insistence of our host, the president of Djibouti, and adhering to basic protocols. It was therefore surprising when, barely 24 hours later, the other side was touting this meeting as a success. Repeating this falsehood till today will not make it any more truthful. 2. Mogadishu must understand that the days when they could exploit Somaliland's coastline and ports for political relevance and financial gain are over. It is time they learned to live with this new reality and moved on. Somaliland's coastline now belongs to only Somaliland, and they alone can determine its future. 3. There is an abundance of “social media experts” opposed to the #Somaliland-#Ethiopia MoU, and they are all from Somalia, with a few from elsewhere but not a single person among them hails from Somaliland. Most, if not all, have never set foot in Somaliland nor have any physical or emotional attachment to it. Their persistent claims over what was never theirs is bordering on the obsessive. But as the saying goes, "hadal badani haan ma buuxsho" (excessive words cannot fill an empty barrel), their words, time and efforts will amount to nothing. If anything, this reminds us of the immense animosity they harbor for SL and its people.

Your actions in East Africa are beneficial because this region still has major challenges to overcome. Like in many parts of the continent, poverty, income inequality, weak macroeconomics, political stability, climate change and skills shortage are rife and weigh down on the region's economic potential. The urgency to respond to climate change brings an opportunity that can contribute to much-needed economic transformation in the region. Climate-resilient, low-carbon development can boost inclusive growth while bridging the energy deficit and reducing food insecurity and poverty.
Wrapping up our East Africa regional Office seminar on a high note! Our team gathered to delve into collaborative strategies for tackling the region's development challenges. Here's a snapshot of our current progress: ✔ 194 ongoing projects ✔ 4.9 billion euros of commitments ✔ 11.8 million individuals benefiting from improved access to clean drinking water Our dedication remains unwavering, with a firm resolve to further strengthen our efforts. Heartfelt appreciation to all our teams for their invaluable contributions! 👏 Read more about our action: https://lnkd.in/eGsYaCEt #TeamWork #EastAfrica
