From getting rejected on Shark Tank to becoming the judge on Shark Tank, here's the crazy story of Jammie Siminoff 👇 📍 2011 - Jammie started building the world’s first Wi-Fi video doorbell while working in his garage. 📍 2013 - Launched the Doorbot & appeared on Shark Tank but got rejected. He was out of money at that time and looking for investment desperately.  But Sharks didn’t see value in Doorbot. Even one of the Sharks said to Jammie,  "I think it's a great business. I think you'll be successful.  It will be worth $20M.  I just can't invest in something that's not going to be $70M someday." ---------- Because of his appearance on Shark Tank, he got customers attention. But this didn’t unfold as a good thing for him. 🔴 Ring received 300+ negative reviews on Amazon. “Horrible product from a highly unethical company.” Now, what he did here is a learning for every founder! ‘’He listened to his customers”. He responded by making house calls to 50 customers over the next nine months. Answered every customer's email to improve product quality. 📍 2014 - He rebranded Doorbot as Ring. 📍 2015 - Got investment from Richard Branson & others. 📍 2018 - Amazon acquired Ring for $1 billion. 📍 2024: Jammie Siminoff's net worth is $400M. Jammie was invited as a guest on the same Shark Tank show where his idea got rejected. ------------ 👉 The big takeaway: Rejections do nothing but fuel success if taken constructively. He didn’t let rejections stop him. He kept course correcting & won ultimately. Made Ring $1B company & came back on Shark Tank as a judge. When we started fundraising in 2022,  We were rejected by 50+ investors at MAGIC AI. 157 pitches, 500+ data points and 30+ insights - A deep dive into Shark Tank India S3 Shark Tank India has created enthusiasm and ignited the interest towards entrepreneurship across generations. I personally believe that what it has done for the entrepreneurship ecosystem is unparalleled. It gave Indians a chance to become VCs in their living room. One other important thing it did for businesses, especially in Tier-2 and 3 cities, was introduce the Indian public to the concept of external funding instead of just relying on business loans - a prevalent concept in family businesses in India. It taught the strategic value external funding sources like VC can bring. Just like all of you, we too at Dezerv, are massive fans of the show and our obsession with data and performance led us to analyse each of the 157 pitches this season and mine insights to shed light on this national phenomenon. Here are a few insights that really stood out for us – ➡Unlike its counterpart in the US, 57% of the successful deals had two or more sharks involved. Solo shark deals were close to 43%. This signals the risk-sharing outlook of sharks. ➡We saw a spike in royalty deals. We observed royalty deals offered to companies where the valuation was upward of INR 100 Crore on average. It could indicate that sharks want to make calculated risk-managed offers for high-valuation companies. ➡Only 30% of founders were women. While there is a considerable amount of gender gap that still exists, it’s interesting to note that out of all unsuccessful pitches, only one was such where it was a single-woman founder as compared to 13 unsuccessful pitches which had men as founders. ➡Founders came from almost 23 states. Even though it might have been done by design, it still is incredible to bring and show diversity, especially in a country like India. I can go on and on, but the bottom line is - Shark Tank India Season 3 was impressive. In fact, we even launched our first TVC during its airing. Who thought a reality show could take the fight to the largest sporting franchise in the country? Just shows you the power of great content and a passionate audience. Anyone else glued to Shark Tank India 3? It's been fascinating to see the innovation but 1 thing's struck a chord with me: sky-high valuations. Witnessing some companies with limited revenue & traction secure sky-high valuations left me pondering: Do a lot of the companies really deserve the valuation that they are getting? - I get it for a few but do all? Is Shark Tank India becoming more of a marketing platform rather than a funding and marketing opportunity together? The average deal size for Shark Tank US is around $302,779 at an average equity stake of 24.66%. (Source below) This brings the average valuation of companies coming in Shark Tank US at $1.23 Mn (~INR 10.2 Cr). The equity stake and average valuation is key here. Clearly, while I appreciate the ideas, Shark Tank should also consider companies at earlier stages to be on the show rather than some with INR 60 Cr+ valuations. Should there be a lower valuation cap on the startups coming on the show? Just a fan, giving his thoughts. Shark Tank aspirants, here are my two cents from my experience with the sharks for WYLD! Watch your timing. Here’s what I mean. If you go at an early stage of your business, you won’t have enough to show that you’re worth their investments. At the same time, if you go too late, you might not get the exact valuation you desire. The right timing is when your business is in that growth stage. This is when your vision and values are set in stone and you are ready to level up. Earlier I used to watch the episodes of overrated Shark Tank India with an intent to have some idea on the ‘Made in India’ products created and aggressively being marketed. But those who watched the shows are quite aware that the investors are way too biased in several angles, not naming anyone though. After trying a few of those pitched there, I have an opinion that the investors outrightly rejected and insulted some worthy entrepreneurs and invested on worthless products. The products are labelled with ‘as featured in shark tank’ as the biggest USP to woo the customers. But unfortunately they lose me. Majority of those I tried turned out either too expensive, or not worth the paid. It’s loud and clear that the companies should refrain from looting the customers in the name of Shark Tank and projecting false claims. Indian products should stand out tall in terms of high quality, reasonable pricing, and of course some aesthetic packaging. Over ambitiously trying to gain millions overnight is disastrous and is nothing short of welcoming smartly marketed foreign products. PS: Not naming any particular company.

Come on, we all are guilty of w̶a̶t̶c̶h̶i̶n̶g̶ 𝗕𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗲-𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 Shark Tank India these days! 😅 Whether it’s: Aman's “Hum bhi bana lenge”, or Namita's “And for that reason, I’m out!”, or Peyush’s obsession for Vision and Purpose; No wonder the sharks and the founders that pitch are exceptional and inspiring as hell! With all the buzz around investments and start-up boom, here are my key takeaways from the show- 1. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 - Business, numbers, gross and net margins, profits, and everything is secondary. The first and foremost thing is the Founder. As Aman quotes it - “Tu Banda Great Hai”. Apart from their background, qualifications, experience, good business and marketing acumen... A Good Founder reflects Humility Passion Persistence Grit Honesty & Transparency Purpose Resourcefulness which separates them from the rest. 2. 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸-𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 - - Total Addressable Market (TAM) is big enough/growing (preferably >3000 crores) - Year-on-year growth % is increasing. ( brownie points if >50-80%) - Product/Service has a clear Moat/differentiation - Businesses have a Product Market Fit (PMF), simply meaning there's a need for that particular product/solution in the market. - Business is cash flow positive and profitable or Path to Profitability is reasonable (within 12-18 months) 3. 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮’𝘀 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁-𝗨𝗽 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗲𝘁 - Maximum start-ups coming on Shark Tank are from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities! The future looks very promising indeed.
