While #China currently leads in emissions, the full story behind climate justice is more complex. Most greenhouse gases have accumulated over a century, driven by industrialisation in wealthy countries. China’s industrialisation is relatively recent, and when you consider per capita emissions, its responsibility is smaller compared to the #US and other developed nations. Additionally, much of China’s #emissions stem from producing goods consumed in wealthier countries, making global consumption a key factor. ➡ Understanding this context is crucial in addressing the broader picture of climate justice. The #Chinese government attaches great importance to addressing #climate change and has positioned climate action as a key lever for enhancing #ecological #conservation and pursuing high-quality #development. #China continues to implement an active national strategy in response to climate change, adopting a series of policies and measures to strive for carbon #emissions peaking before 2030 and carbon neutrality before 2060 (hereinafter the “dual carbon” goals). Among these measures, the carbon market serves as an essential policy tool for China to promote cost-effective carbon emissions #reduction across sectors and to achieve the “dual carbon” goals. It also plays a #fundamental role in China’s carbon pricing mechanism. ⏬⏬⏬ Follow Integrated Africa Power (IAP) for more updates #Sustainability #CarbonMarket #ClimateAction #RenewableEnergy #ChineseGovernment

#China is shifting its approach to climate change, now positioning itself as a global leader in #climate #governance despite its #historical emphasis on climate #equity. Even after becoming the #largest greenhouse gas #emitter and the second largest economy in the first decade of the 2000s, China’s leaders still employed climate equity as a rationale to stick to its unnegotiable voluntary commitment. https://lnkd.in/dnVuvACR East Asia Forum

🌍 Our head MENA reporter Angelik Nehme explores the intricate world of carbon markets with expert Björn Fondén. Discover their role in climate action, and the evolving landscape of international carbon credit trading. 🔊 "The rapid economic growth of countries in the region is putting significant pressures on both energy systems and natural ecosystems. Deforestation is another major issue in Southeast Asia, for which carbon markets can help as one of the tools to incentivise forest preservation and reforestation" #carbonmarkets #climateaction https://lnkd.in/eZtxMxdJ

#QuoteOfTheWeek | “The countries of the world are not at the same level in climate pollution, as there are developed countries that have greater footprints in climate pollution through their economic activities, as it is not fair to create equality in obligations, especially since developing countries are the least in terms of climate pollution. There is an urgent need to provide soft financing to developing countries that emit the least carbon to implement adaptation and mitigation projects that contribute to achieving carbon neutrality in support of a planet that is livable and workable.” Financial Regulatory Authority’s Head Mohamed Farid. #ArabFinance #Egypt #Economy #News

CO2 emissions from global value chains have grown rapidly, and developing Asia is responsible for an increasing share. International cooperation is crucial to effectively address the challenge of climate change. Enhanced global cooperation can create a more coherent and predictable policy environment, increase transparency, and mobilize financial and technical resources to overcome capacity constraints and promote the spread of green technologies, especially to developing and emerging economies. I spoke to Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) to discuss ADB’s Asia-Pacific Climate Report. We used the most recent modeling approaches to try to estimate the economic cost of climate change. We found out that if we don’t act with urgency, GDP in the region would be lower by 17% by 2070 and would even equate to greater losses beyond that period. We need to invest in: 🟢Mitigating carbon emissions, including investing in more renewable energy supplies 🟢Adaptation - reducing the vulnerability of the population today to the changing temperatures which means building up disaster resilience 🎧https://lnkd.in/gf8FyJsD
