Outdated social media policies… They're like kryptonite to an employee advocacy program. I'm old enough to remember the early days of social media. Specifically, what it meant for the corporate world. Companies were scrambling to enforce social media policies, as they didn’t want their employees to say the wrong thing, which could land everyone in hot water. The resulting social media policies were typically fear-led and took the approach of “if you post about the company on social media, you’re in big trouble” If you want your employees to start using social media in 2024, you have to communicate the change in attitude towards social media use from the company’s perspective. Otherwise, they’ll assume that the company’s stance is the same as it has always been, or what they THINK it has been. Don’t leave it for employees to assume the policy ❌ So, even if your current policy is up to scratch, make sure that you get it in front of your employees. Make it part of your onboarding process when you’re launching an employee advocacy program.
