Many brands we talk to have mixed feelings about the implementation of Digital Product Passports. Tech innovations are here to SUPPORT. It’s a TOOL to help you grow your business, plus attract and KEEP the right customers. It’s also a tool that helps you monetize your products in more ways than just by selling it once. Here’s the bigger vision of what DPPs will do for your brand. 1️⃣ Product Transparency Brands can show consumers exactly where and how their products are made, what materials are used, and the product’s lifecycle. 2️⃣ Consumer Trust Consumers can check the authenticity and ethical sourcing of products. This is crucial against counterfeit goods and to build trust. 3️⃣ Improved Product Lifecycle Management By embedding detailed care instructions and repair information in DPPs, brands can extend the life of garments, promoting durability over fast fashion. 4️⃣ Boosting Second-Hand Market & Resale Value DPPs can document a product's history. This makes it easier for consumers to resell their clothing with verified data on wear, materials, and care, which promotes circular fashion. 5️⃣ Personalized Customer Engagement DPPs allow brands to collect important data about how consumers interact with their products. This helps brands create more personalized recommendations and build engagement strategies. 6️⃣ Regulations Compliance DPPs will be mandatory for sold goods in the EU. If brands don’t comply - they can’t do business in the EU. 7️⃣ Reduce Fast Fashion & Waste DPPs help customers make informed buying decisions. This helps reduce impulse buying and supports more conscious, long-term purchasing habits. 8️⃣ Easier Recycling & Upcycling DPPs can include detailed material breakdowns, making it easier for consumers and recyclers to understand how to disassemble and recycle clothing properly. 9️⃣ Brand Differentiation & Storytelling DPPs give brands a platform to tell the story of their products. This storytelling builds emotional connections with consumers, especially those who prioritize sustainability. With DPPs brands can be compliant with the new regulations, meet the demand for consumer transparency, and position themselves as leaders in the circular movement. I'm so proud to share Optoro's 2023 impact report, highlighting their impressive accomplishments in sustainability and customer satisfaction. In 2023, Optoro's innovative solutions have helped customers keep over 95% of their returned and excess inventory out of landfills, diverting over 8M pounds of waste, and eliminating over 43M pounds of CO2 emissions. Their impact doesn't stop there. For one retailer, Optoro reduced returns processing time by a staggering 93%, and for a global footwear brand, improved their recovery on returns by 45%, adding $30M to their bottom line. Optoro's solutions even helped a maternity retailer increase their revenue from repurchases of returns, driving a 37% increase in average order value. But it's not just about the numbers. Optoro is also dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion, hosting workshops, round-table discussions, and inviting powerful speakers to share their stories and connect with staff. As someone who has been a part of Optoro's success, I'm excited to see the company continue to make a positive impact in our increasingly circular economy. During the last Climate Week, I heard a lot of conversations about Digital Product Passports (DPPs), and it’s clear they are going to reshape how brands approach sustainability. What I find most exciting is that DPPs don’t just help with compliance—they offer a chance to build consumer trust, extend product lifecycles, and support the circular economy. It’s an opportunity for brands to go beyond simply selling a product and instead create a more meaningful connection with their customers. What are your thoughts on how DPPs will change the future of fashion and sustainability?

𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 (𝗗𝗣𝗣𝘀) 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 A today's round table discussion organized by Renoon and Fédération de la Mode Circulaire, we delved into the transformative potential of Digital Product Passports (DPPs) in the #fashionindustry. Here are some key takeaways: 𝟭. 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗲 & 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 DPPs streamline resale by eliminating the need for customers to re-enter product data when selling pre-owned items. This enhances traceability, combats counterfeits in second-hand marketplaces, and supports sustainability by providing insights into the product's origin and materials. 𝟮. 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗹𝘁𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 Brands can incentivize resale by offering credits to customers who sell pre-owned items. These credits can be used for future purchases, fostering customer loyalty and encouraging repeat business. 𝟯. 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗲𝘀 Transitioning to a circular business model opens new revenue streams. Brands need to rethink whether customers should resell items independently or through the brand's app to monetize resale. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘦: Data interoperability and adaptability in an open ecosystem, especially as the EU moves toward mandating DPPs. 𝟰. 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 & 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 Products of higher quality gain a competitive edge. Customers are more willing to invest in items with strong resale potential, whereas lower-quality items lose value immediately after purchase. The shift to a circular economy isn’t just an opportunity—it's becoming a necessity. How is your brand preparing to adapt? Let's discuss! #circulareconomy #circularfashion #fashiontech #dpp Stephanie Crespin STEPHANIE BRETONNIERE بريتونير ستيفاني 山睿⚡️ WEIMPACT.WORLD Iris Skrami Pierre-Nicolas Hurstel

Multiple studies have shown that even though a high number of consumers say they want to buy from purpose-driven brands, only a small percentage actually do. Case in point? As Greg Shumchenia pointed out in his latest brilliant newsletter: ↘ 92% of Gen Z says they need to share values with a brand to buy from it ↘ 62% of Gen Z favors brands that have sustainable manufacturing processes however: ↘ 44% of Gen Z makes at least 1 purchase *every month* from SHEIN ↘ SHEIN produced 16.7 million tons of CO2 in 2023 ↪ (that's equivalent to the average annual emissions of over 3.5 million cars by the way) This intention-action gap has frustrated researchers and brands. How can we get people to actually change their purchase behaviours if they say one thing and do another? Here are three tactics that are proven to be effective: 👯 Use social influence: People want to fit in and the FOMO is real. Instead of trying to appeal to them directly to change their behaviour, tell them what other people that are most like them are doing. What are their neighbours/peers/competitors doing that they’re not doing yet? 🎁 Always make the sustainable option the default one, or the one that’s easiest to adopt: One clever way I see e-commerce brands do this is by making plain packaging the default option at checkout, and customers have to opt-in for branded packaging and extras like tissue paper. If you're a service-based company, consider listing your most sustainable offering first, or making it the most competitive based on price. 😊 Make people feel good: People are more likely to engage in a behaviour when they derive positive feelings from doing so. But when it comes to sustainability, a lot of the messaging tends to be fear-based and makes us feel guilty. There are so many reasons to feel down on what’s happening in the world, but brands that make you feel seen, supported and hopeful are ones that you’ll want to interact with again.
