When a child is subjected to domestic, family, or sexual violence, the question isn't if it impacts them — it's how. This World Children's Day, ANROWS proudly launches, In Their Own Right: Actions to Improve Children and Young People’s Safety from Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence. The landmark synthesis draws together 20 research reports and over 130 policy recommendations offering a roadmap to policymakers, practice leaders, and advocates for addressing the unique needs of children and young people as victims and survivors of violence. Authored by ANROWS senior project officers, Sophie Gillfeather-Spetere and Amy Watson, this report is a call to action to centre the voices and experiences of children and young people in our responses to violence. 🔗Read the synthesis: https://lnkd.in/gDjrYG-v 🎨 Artwork by: Amani Haydar

Such an important document by ANROWS. Not only is the question "how" but also who causes the harm. If we talk about the impact of DFSV on children but do not name the persons causing the harm, the increase attention on the issue will lead to increased mother-blaming. Increased awareness of the harm to children from DFSV must focus keep in mind that "domestic violence perpetrators' behaviours and choices harm children" not just "domestic violence harms children." #PivotTothePerpetrator #UNCRC #StopBlamingMothers #StopIgnoringFathers

For the love of crying out loud could someone send this to Dreyfus

Wonderful and important work, congratulations ANROWS. I also want to take this opportunity to spotlight the incredible work of Kirra H. and Y-Change, with their project of the same name. Not sure if this was inspiration for the title of this report, but there are clear synergies: https://www.berrystreet.org.au/news/y-change-amplifies-voices-of-young-victim-survivors-of-family-violence

Excellent work ANROWS! Important information for all of us to learn more about centering children’s voices and experiences to support healing.

Missing from all of these recommendations is the recognition that Parental Alienation is a form of child abuse! … and it’s a silent epidemic that is simply not addressed in Australia.
