Most people think precision farm monitoring technology is like a having a worker who doesn’t sleep, takes no breaks, works for free (once it is purchased) and does it all for you. However, it is just a tool that needs to be used and maintained appropriately. Even a fancy tractor with all kinds of amazing options still needs a driver! The goal should be to teach farms how to “drive” precision dairy monitoring technology, not just install and let go.

BAM!, in collaboration with SPORTLER SpA and Birra Artigianale Impavida, is embarking on a mini-tour to connect with people and communities at Sportler stores. We've been in Milan, today we're in Bozen, and on the 21st, we'll be in Peschiera. Every time I have the opportunity to speak with people about bike traveling, adventures on two wheels, and how, over 10 years, BAM! has evolved into an incredible movement, I remind myself of a fundamental rule (to me) in marketing: every project must begin from people, with the brand coming second. It may seem obvious, but it's not always the case. Many brands, projects and events are crafted without authenticity, lacking heart: good plans, good budgets, even good ideas, but not effective, for this reason. BAM! stands out to me as an invaluable lesson because it began small, rooted in a strong community, with a genuine story and countless kilometers pedaled before any marketing strategies were devised. One of the best articles I read, from one of the best researchers in our Spanish National Research Council. This is one of the most relevant paragraphs that explain how what happened in Valencia that is called in Spanish DANA, una “Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos” or “Isolated Depression at High Levels.” A DANA is a low-pressure or depression system in the upper levels of the atmosphere, which has completely separated from the general circulation of the atmosphere, in our case from the westerly zonal circulation. The key paragraph says: "What happened? DANA is the result of a complex combination of circumstances: the storms known as 'cold drops' at the end of summer, with several meteorological processes altered by climate change. A combination that has given rise to an event extreme" Climate change has long been producing a surface temperature of the Mediterranean Sea above 30ºC for several weeks a year, absolutely unusual and typical of tropical seas. A temperature that provides the energy and humidity necessary to magnify any 'cold drop', and cannot be explained if not by the sustained burning of fossil fuels and the consequent release of greenhouse gases. Climate change has been weakening the jet stream for years, that longitudinal current of winds at a height that separates the cold areas in the north and the temperate ones further south. A weaker jet stream undulates, creates troughs and meanders, and allows large pockets of cold air aloft to move far to the south. When they come into contact with the warm, humid air generated in an overheated Mediterranean, a huge storm is triggered. " So yes, this is a consequence of a higher than-usual Mediterranean Sea surface temperature and a weakened jet stream, which Al Gore already warned us about in his 2006 book "an inconvenient truth"....Yes, very inconvenient, and therefore, we don't take it enough into account to make substantial changes, and now we are seeing the consequences! Will we act now? We need a new language, which everyone can understand and integrate into their new life.
