GLEIF’s Head of Business Operations, Clare Rowley, believes that the cross-border identification system and cross-border payments will evolve as more and more markets migrate to ISO 20022.   The global migration to ISO 20022 in payment market infrastructures is gaining regulatory support for the legal entity identifier (LEI), promising enhanced efficiency, transparency, and security for cross-border transactions. Endorsements from the Bank for International Settlements – BIS Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures, The Wolfsberg Group, and the Swift Payment Market Practice Group highlight the LEI's role in supporting critical financial activities like sanctions screening, KYC processes, fraud detection, and more within ISO 20022 payment messages. Looking ahead to 2024, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Recommendation 16's review offers a crucial opportunity to integrate the LEI in wire transfer information, aiming to boost trust and transparency further. Amidst this consensus, many financial entities are adopting the LEI, with validation agents within the Global LEI System facilitating easier customer access and implementation while achieving operational benefits. #LEI #Standards #ISO20022
