Hi Network, Earlier this week I had the privilege of spending two days at Stable in London as part of GAIN’s Investment Insight Programme. On the first day we were provided with a better understanding of the company and what asset management entails. This was then followed by a training session with BBC broadcaster and presenter, Alina Jenkins, from UK Body Talk, on how to prepare and deliver an effective presentation ahead of our stock pitch. During the training session we learnt about body posture, how to tackle difficult questions, how to structure your presentation and other general tips. On the second day we attended talks and meetings with key members of the team at Stable, which gave us a deeper insight into the more specific areas of the business. Finally, we presented our stock pitch to Stable who were taking on the role of our imaginary client who was considering whether they should buy or sell the stock. Our group researched Adidas, which we were allocated by GAIN, and my team members and I included a SWOT analysis, an investment thesis, an ESG profile, a valuation section and a recommendation as to whether the stock should be bought or sold. We were then asked a series of searching questions about our decision and the company. For our stock pitch I researched Adidas’ ESG profile, which I found to very strong with a high ESG profile score of 79/100 (as measured by the S&P Global Ratings Review). A few notable facts I found out about Adidas’ ESG were: that it used 71% of recycled polyester in its products in 2020; it seeks to reduce water consumption for its garment dying suppliers by 40% by 2025, by publishing a guide for suppliers with more than 350 water-saving initiatives for the processes which use the most water; and that there is high level of engagement by directors, where in 2020 they attended 97% of board meetings and committees to which they were allocated. A huge thank you to the GAIN team and George Foster for arranging an incredibly insightful programme.
