We’ve joined 40+ suicide prevention & mental health organisations in an open letter to call on the Federal Gov to release the National Suicide Prevention Strategy. The National Strategy, which advocates for a whole-of-government approach to suicide prevention, is critical during a time when Australians are struggling with cost-of-living pressures, unemployment and ongoing economic uncertainty. 🧠☁️ Today is World Suicide Prevention Day, a day to raise awareness and break the silence around mental health challenges. 💔 Suicide can touch anyone, and there were more than 5,600 cases recorded in 2022 in England and Wales alone. Although there are no official statistics, research by Mental Health First Aid England suggests more than 500 cases a year in the UK could be work-related. There’s a wealth of resources available at the International Association for Suicide Prevention which you can find here 👉 https://lnkd.in/gU7tE4-W 🧡🖤 At Right Now Group, we value the well-being of our colleagues and believe in creating a supportive environment for our team. We also ensure our colleagues know they have a safe space to talk about their challenges if they ever need to. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #worldsuicidepreventionday

Today, on World Suicide Prevention Day, I reflect on the importance of open conversations about mental health and the need to combat stigma. This day holds personal significance, reminding me of the impact of mental illness and the necessity of safe spaces for seeking help. As a Digital Crisis Supporter at Lifeline and a member of the Suicide Prevention Australia Lived Experience Panel, I am driven by advocacy for improved mental health policies. Sharing our stories is powerful in reducing isolation and fostering understanding. World Suicide Prevention Day symbolises hope, resilience, and progress in mental health awareness. It's a time to remember, support, and celebrate advancements towards a world that embraces and supports mental well-being. Let's continue to be voices for change and always remember, there is hope in reaching out, especially in the darkest moments. #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #MentalHealthAdvocacy #EndTheStigma #WSPD2024 #SuicidePrevention #MentalHealth #WorldSuicidePreventionDay2024

Take a moment to check in with someone today. As the holiday season approaches, distress levels are rising. What should be a time of joy often feels overwhelming for many, weighed down by financial pressures and/or emotional struggles. This season, let’s prioritise connection, compassion, and heartfelt conversations. A simple check-in could make all the difference. #mentalwellness #communityconnection #mentalhealthmatters https://lnkd.in/gS8UEqRK
Suicide Prevention Australia's newly released Community Tracker shows 1 in 5 Australians are experiencing heightened distress due to social isolation and loneliness. This emphasises the importance of providing opportunities for meaningful social connection for all Australians across the lifespan. We look forward to working with Suicide Prevention Australia and the wider mental health sector to drive a nationally coordinated response to addressing loneliness. WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY Today marks World Suicide prevention Day, this year’s theme is “Changing the Narrative on Suicide” and encourage to “Start the Conversation”. The idea behind this year’s theme is to encourage open conversations to prevent suicides, and to shift the stigma from silence to being open, understanding, and supporting. H&J Martin are proud to currently have 28 professionally trained mental health first aiders in the organisation. Our specially trained staff can be identified by our green H&J lanyard and are available for our employees to approach and contact whenever they are in need of advice. Here are 3 small steps which could make a massive difference to someone around you: · ask them how they are feeling · listen to what they have to say and observe · offer support for them if they are in a difficult situation By initiating these vital conversations, we can break down barriers, raise awareness, and create better cultures of support. #wspd #suicideawareness #hjmartin

I really hope they release it before suicide prevention day. Too often governments wait for a day of significance to launch their strategies, leaving countless of people in limbo purely for 30 seconds of air time in the media. It has a sadly familiar scent of tokenism about it. It wouldn’t be the first time a national strategy was launched on a day of significance. We have communities and people suffering inexplicable pain that need resourcing and support now. I say this as a person with a lived experience, but also working on the frontline with people navigating their own life crisis. Hope doesn’t magically happen on September 10th, it’s a time to reflect, remember and mourn those who we’ve lost along the way. It’s a call to reinvigorate collaborative approaches to better address the needs for people in suicidal distress. It’s not a day for government showmanship or political point scoring. This is about interventions that saves lives. That’s 9 lives each day this strategy could help reduce. 333 Australian lives will likely be lost to suicide between now and September 10. Please publish the strategy. Don’t wait for a tokenistic date. #SuicidePrevention #MentalHealthAwareness #CulturalCompetencyinHealthcare September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and I'm highlighting facts that we should all be aware of. According to the Pew Center, the suicide rate among Black adolescents is increasing faster than other racial and ethnic groups. From 2007 to 2020, the suicide rate rose 144% among 10- to 17-year-olds who are Black. Black adolescents are significantly less likely than their peers in other demographic groups to receive mental health care. If you or anyone you know needs help, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-TALK (8255)
