Data is so often the ‘fuel’ for new ways of working, but can be tricky to design and govern. Considering data strategy early with experts like Bill Wilson and Ian McVicar can really accelerate your transformations. Feel free to ping me if you’d like an introduction.
It was interesting to hear from Mike Hawes, CEO of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) last night at the SMMT's annual dinner on a day of bad news for the UK car industry. As a CSO (and an EV owner) it was encouraging to hear Mike's request to government: not to abandon targets - which have after all driven significant investment in the industry - but help fix the demand issues. Responding, Jonathan Reynolds MP, Secretary of State for Business and Trade, promised a rapid consultation and £200M for charging infrastructure (a start anyway). My first project on EV charging roll-out four years ago and more recent work with the DfT on this topic has convinced me that using the data more intelligently can show the Secretary of State where to spend that money. There were plenty of positives too - not least the opportunity to host NTT DATA clients from Volvo Cars, JLR and Daimler Truck AG. My own work with Volvo has shown me how data and AI are going to transform the industry even more than they have to date - the smartest OEMs are ready.
